What about no mountains just the bolt. Or perhaps front & rear sight picture?
Looks good though. |
|
I thought about just the bolt but it looked a little too on the nose.
I was going for a sun rising over the mountains. I'll do some work on it with some other options. |
|
I like the sunrise image (and saw it immediately), the basic layout, the traditional colors, and the slogan--a nice change from "Come & Take 'Em."
I'd buy a couple of them as they are! Edit, to clarify my thinking: The sun on the mountains is a question. Does the sun still rise on our freedom, or are we watching the sun set? And the slogan is basically an encouragement to learn from history. Freedom is always dependent upon the vigilant. I like the message that we shouldn't just watch our rights (continue to) slip away. |

Instead of the bolt. How about a 604 and a 605 and a GAU-5A/A flying in formation?

Instead of a bolt face it could be a 601 sight wheel. View Quote I can do a variant like that. As for anything more fancy like with rifles etc we need to remember that the patches need to be stitched and lose a lot of detail in the stitching. As for the bolt face rising over the mountains the poet in me would suggest that it refers to the 1957 date on the left and the dawning of a new age of rifle development. |
|
I like it as it is. Especially the OD one. Nice job.
That should look really nice; simple lines and less detail to reproduce. |
|
|
I like the idea, but am not excited about a bolt face.
I too would like some retro identifier, two XM177's making an X or a 603 and a XM? Or if subtle, then just a moderator, or a duck bill / tri-prong, or a waffle mag? thx |
|
Definitely done in the old BDU era subdued colors (OD, Black, brown) and with lettering that would be reminiscent of old "Mama San's" sewing machine quality. Like the old in-country patches our VN era brethren wore.

Yep I made a distressed version this morning just as a test that looked cool but in my excitement I forgot to save. In any case I'll take another crack at it tonight along with trying to finish some other stuff up

So here's the thing, again for those suggesting rifles, fancy things flying around etc it's not that I can't do them but more so that the patches will look poor once they are stitched. I am uploading a sight wheel variant below: http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m140/Aeneas2020/retro2016%20logo%20sight%20wheel%20small.jpg~original p.s. obviously I still need to fix the lettering for Retro and the slogan but it's just a mock up View Quote |

I really like it, but what is the significance of the flags/mountains?

I like your design. Maye I humbly suggest that you try to reproduce the font that is used on the roll mark of retro rifles? I think it would be a neat easter egg. |

Some ideas I had for your next ones. Maybe next year .etc Profiles of Soldiers with M16's http://s3-media4.fl.yelpcdn.com/bphoto/_4qYYe4XPmvq1hKTal5XWA/348s.jpg http://blog.cheaperthandirt.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/VietnamMemorial_Three_Soldiers_.jpg Rifle teepee, could even have different variants http://www.105th.org/gallery/2004chuck/rifles.jpg View Quote I've tried those I'll have to post some up. I did kind of a band of brothers thing again though the problem is detail when it's on a 3" patch you lose it all. They end up looking like stick men. I'll see what I can do. I do have a little special something planned at some point but for now I'm keeping it simple. Thanks for the input. |

They weren't last time they were given away. A few of the regulars chipped in to help out. It was an intense couple of weeks

Quoted: Ok last update. I did a few requests and I honestly still thing the sight wheel alone is the way to go.... the others will lose detail in stitching. Having said that I did a quick mock up to make them look like patches. Still need to work on the bottom text to make it flow better. Option 1: I like it, we know what it is, it doesn't look militaristic http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m140/Aeneas2020/option%203.jpg~original Option 2: http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m140/Aeneas2020/option%202.jpg~original Option 3: http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m140/Aeneas2020/option1.jpg~original View Quote |

I like #1 the best, as it could be worn at non gun friendly workplaces and schools.

I like the sight wheel alone. It looks classy and the least militaristic, plus there can be no uproar on GD about the BFL usage.
Another possible idea I had while trying to think of retro-specific things would be a top-down view of the front sight post. Considering the A1's and earlier had the five notches over five notches and a different post shape, it might work. Alternatively we could make "Union" style patches. Pencil Barrel Local #625 Slow Twisters Local #112 Let me know if you need help with anything as I made up some designs for a logo for a Tavor owner's group that we had made into die-cut vinyl stickers. I had IWI's VP of marketing asking me for a quote of a couple hundred. Just keep in mind that whatever we do, we are going to have to do something bigger for next year as it will be the 60th birthday! |

& what's wrong with them having a military look to them, exactly? I'd much rather that than something that only reminds me of Obama.

I like 3 the best, great work. But like the multicam style colors of your other examples.

View Quote Lol well i could go with all red if that makes you feel better or you could do a green one? In all seriousness i thought they looked like a pokeball The militaristic thing is just an alternative. I like to be able to wear a patch on my jacket skiing or going through the airport without someone thinking i'm military or something. |

They are sweet, put me down for two and let me know who to send the money too.

I would be willing to send some money to help with sent up. Just let me know.

I like #1 and would definitely be down for one in a black/OD configuration.
