The tragedy mentioned in the title, is that I gave my last early double USAF (aka: 601) magazine pouch away on a "Pay it Forward" last year, thinking I had another one in the safe, in a box of assorted AR stuff.  When I went tonight to get it out for the proto build, I found that I did not, in fact, have another one!

Anyone know who has any for sale?  I checked Google, EBAY, and Liberty Tree Collectors, but found nothing.

I did this once with some M1 Carbines.  Didn't give them away but had three so I sold one.  Then I knew I had two left and sold one.  Finally with only one left, I thought I had two, so I sold one.  Doh!  Sure miss that Underwood!

What does it look like? I know a guy that buys and sells surplus stuff and he comes up with rare items when you least expect it. I can check with him.

They are not really rare, as they were USAF issue until the 70s in some places.  They show up fairly often.  Besides the one I gave away on pay it forward, I gave one as a Secret Santa gift to another retrohead.

From what I understand, there are three models of these pouches. The first model, and most difficult to find, was simply made of canvas (dull looking).  The second model was rubber impregnated canvas (slightly shiny),  and the third model was rubber coated canvas (VERY shiny looking). Both of the above pouches appear to be the second variety.

Yep, that's what I know.  I have had all three through the years.  Our USAF SP arms room had some still in 1979, BTW.  My last ones were second type.

Like a lot of Vietnam era items the USAF mag pouches run hot and cold in availability, right now they are running cold, I also havn't seen any for a while.

Maybe the guy you pifed it to will give it back if they find out you gave last one away. I'd love to have one also, so if you find two, give me a shout.

Nah, I'll not be a welcher! LOL  It is my own stupid fault.  Besides, 1956 universal ammunition pouches would be more correct for a proto build, now that I think of it!  To bad I sold my 1956 set up when I was so broke last year.  I think I need to stop by the Army-Navy surplus store tomorrow and see what they have.

These pouches are mostly correct for display with a 602 build, and a 604 build, as both are mainly Air Force issue.  Although, I HAVE seen combat photos of Army troops using them.

I will check the local Army/Navy store next time I am in town, a couple of weeks ago, he had a huge pile of USAF issued mag pouches, I didn't look very close at them because I will not looking for any, but again, I will check again when I am in town and pick a few up if they are the right ones.

LOL!  That's cool.  I've been contacted by the member I secret santa-ed.  We are arranging a trade for some stuff to him to get mine back.

I have my 601 pouch  again!  MrM1A1 graciously traded it back to me for some AK parts and stuff I had, that I no longer need,(including a really nice Krink 24mm Flash Hider, brown bakelite grip, and Tapco G2 FCG).  I am VERY happy with the trade.  Thanks!

Hahaha.  I may have to look for mine.  I think I hid it when I sold one of my two 601 mags five years ago when I was...um...between jobs.
