At $50 they sell at $95 they gather dust.

I've got a CNC warrior A1 carry handle on my sole flat top. Thus defeating the point of a flat top.

It sat on the EE for some time before I bought it for $55 shipped. Had one scratch and genuine Colt A1 sights installed.

I don't think there is a huge demand for them.

i've got 2, one i bought full price from cnc, 1 i got for $50.

I'm trying to think of the benefits of the A1 over the A2. Lighter weight and more room for your hand are the main ones I can think of, but then you also lose your ability to adjust elevation at the rear. I'd also assume that the A1 rear sight is a bit more "oops proof" as the big elevation wheel on the A2 seems easier to accidentally adjust.

I'm a bit curious to know the demand for detachable carry handles at all with foldable BUIS being all the rage for flat tops. I guess as an off-rifle spare that you can keep in a range bag or kit to use in case your optic failed, but even then some of the non-folding iron sights seem like they could do the job (unless you want to use it as a carry handle).

For me, Looks and feel. dont really care for optic ar's personally. This is my recent flat top.

I love A1 sights. Honestly I have no need for the elevation on A2s and no need for flat tops. I just can't justify swapping uppers on complete uppers/kits I buy and most uppers/kits are flat tops now (PSA).
But I'm a cheap bastard, I recently found a guy selling real deal US take off carry handles for $14 on ebay. I bought 4. He was sold out in like a couple hours.
Unless you could bring these to market COMPLETE (CNC doesn't include the sight parts) for about $45, probably not that many buyers.

Used quality A2 Carry handles range from $30-70 depending on condition, manufacturer and how many the seller has on the EE.  Cheapo Chinese junk A2 carry handles can be had for under 20 bucks on Amazon.

I bought one of CNC Warrior's for $65 shipped on EE and sold a Colt A2 for the same that was in very nice condition.  Other than aesthetics and slight weight savings, the only advantage for the A1 carry handle is more windage adjustment and that it doesn't adjust accidentally quite as easily.  This isn't going to transcend your product into a large market that the A2 doesn't already have covered.

My recommendation is to potentially have lower profile mounting nuts instead of the large knobs we see on A2's.  The new CNC warrior come with flat key types.  Since you are doing your own design, maybe have flat threaded inserts that lock the long part onto the picatinny upper internally instead of externally.  This would save weight and be less prone to getting in my way!  The only issue is it will require a real screwdriver to remove instead of a coin or flat piece of metal - not a quick detach, but a nice aesthetic option in a world with few A1 receiver options that are cheap.

If you can purchase a stripped or complete flattop upper for $40 and pay $50-60 for an A1 carry handle to have a faux A1 when used A1's are running $85-$200, you are in the ballpark in my opinion.  The stripped Fulton is the only A1 that I see commercially in stock at $150.

Advice contained in this post is worth exactly what you paid for it!  

I think it's a neat idea.  I like the Colt style knobs, but slotted pan head screws like Daniel Defense would be a winner too.  

I fear that the price will make them unmarketable though.

I have no need for one as mostly all my uppers are all carry handles but....I think there might be a place for one on a .308 tho.
Surprised no one has brought it up yet.
I haven't really looked at .308 receivers but mostly what I see out there are all flat tops.
I plan to do a .308 sometime and I think it could find a place on one.
Just something to think about...if you decide to do one keep me in mind as a potential customer.

I have three of the CNC A1 carry handles.
You still have the option to use the flat top.
A1 sights are less fiddly and less likely to be inadvertently moved by someone than A2 sights.
I have one on a KISS rifle, one on my 9mm and one on my AR45.

How do you like the AR45?

I thunk up the idea of an A1 carry handle for the AR45. Didn't make much sense to have an A2 rear sight that was designed to engage targets out to 500m with a round that was effective at less than 100m. Justin at CNC Guns redesigned the handle so you could actually fit your fingers into the handle to carry the gun.

More robust and less parts than an A2 CH.

I would buy one at $50 as soon as it was available.

I have a 9mm AR build in the works right now.  I want it to look as much like the classic Colt 9mm SMG as I can, including the handle, but want the option in the future to have optics if my eyes get old.  I would love an A1 carry handle because 9mm doesn't need A2 rear sights.

ETA: I would also prefer it to not be quick detach.  I like the idea of using screws.  Keep the mounting interface as low profile as possible.

it's pretty simple, retro = carry handle,  A2= non- retro, ergo A1 carry handle.
 

I'm challenging Braceman to come up with a better way to attach said  handle.


I've scoured the Web looking for 10-32 quick release levers/nuts (think the quick release that bicyclers use) and got nada.

I think a threaded 10/32 inlet (that the bolt goes flush into)on the non-clamping side would work and then use a round head flat tip combo 10/32 bolt to go flush to the clamp side.  This would be a lightweight, low profile and cheap way to make it work.  

With a coin, it could still be relatively quick release - just that the bolts and clamp would come loose instead of keeping it all together in one piece.  However, if you think about MBUS and a lot of other removable sights, they operate in a very similar fashion.

Engineering is solving one problem and discovering you have created another one!

Love it.  I built it in 2008 with Oly parts for the upper.
30 rounds of 45 ACP make quite a ragged hole in the target.
230 grain bullets really ring steel.
