They will now install tritium on new OEGs, and they will replace tritium on old sights... so those of you with the old trit/ fiber optic sights can now get them at 100%... also, replacement cost is 40 bucks per sight.
They're also looking at doing tritium replacement on other older sights like Trilux, etc. |
|
Cool, I have a couple of old OEG's. Will be nice to get new tritium in them.

Great news! Last year I called them and said I had an expired OEG plus two (2) Singlepoint green night sites that I'd like to have new tritium installed, they said hopefully they would get the ok this year. A lot of people doubted it, this is a victory for Retro members. Might I add that I had been in contact with someone recently who owns a Singlepoint green night site and he was able to test the SP and still after 45 years he found evidence of tritium. I also found older (1969) documentation from a UK firearms publication that mentioned the tritium in the night Singlepoints along with diagrams, tests etc.

Great! I have yet to look on their site.....So by chance have you heard of a cost?

I was just thinking about the last Armson I owned 15+ years ago today after a discussion about early aimpoints on another forum. I was thinking how "cutting edge" these optics were in the early 90s, may have to look for another Armson OEG now.

I've got one on my AR180. glad to know I can get it refurbed.
|
|
I have one I'll send off to them and I also have a Trilux that I hope they will be able to do.
|
|
I'd certainly love to get my two IDF Trilux optics fired up with tritium instead of the watch battery LED setup.

I'll have to look into this for my Trilux. Unfortunately, I think the Izzy battery conversion did away with some key parts when they mount the battery switch.

It's Forest at Armson - You can reach me @ [email protected] with any questions. Post or send me a pic of your sight if you'd like. Everything was built with a cone up until our Max Duty models with the cylindrical dome. Early sights had a longer cone than those from the early '80s to current, but still a cone. Anything that comes in from 1980 +/- we leave completely as-is, newer sights get replacement knobs (if needed) and a possibly a crystal clear dome (also depending on exact vintage and condition). Any takeoff parts are returned - and I understand that some sights are not a "if it ain't broke - fix it 'til it is..." kind of thing. |

Welcome and thanks for posting in here!
I will be sending you guys an OEG soon and perhaps a Trilux so I'll be in touch but wanted to say welcome and nice to see a first post used in the retro forum! It usually takes people a little while to realize we are here. |

Still using the same molds and extrusions from 30 years ago in South Africa. I have been a part of Armson for 25+ years, and although the founder retired in 2004 when we brought virtually everything to the U.S., we still have a partner in South Africa and build parts both here and there. Some conjecture that the new sights are made in China, etc. Lots of misconceptions in general... That said - We'll take good care of your OEG when you send it in. Not able to do anything with the Trilux at the moment - still need to work it out with the NRC, but I know there are a ton of people that need a Trilux rework. Probably won't be soon since it involves the NRC, but something that we want to be able do ASAP. |

I'll be sending mine in as well. The OEG is one of the best tools for teaching both eyes open while shooting. Now, if I can get it off SWMBO rifle
Why is Armson using overpriced Fed Ex Ground for shipping? Damn, might as well run the scope over now an save time. |

I spoke with Forest a week or two ago re adding the night/green model Singlepoints to the list for recharging with tritium. We agreed that it would be best for Armson to purchase a sample Singlepoint to experiment with first before working on any vintage Singlepoints. In the interim I'll have my recharged OEG to use.

Good point as far as Fed-Ex, but... USPS requires us to fill out additional paperwork and is a big hassle. Common carriers like UPS and Fed-Ex only require a simple sticker and you do get better tracking. You are right about cost - we typically lose a bit on most return shipments to residential addresses. We do try and take the time to stomp on your box before we drop it off just to make sure it gets done properly.... |

Will they still be offering their OEGs sans Tritium? View Quote Absolutely. You will have the option of Tritium or no tritium. If you don't need it you don't have to pay for it. If you need/want/desire just have us add it with no delays. Quick note: 1" Max Duty sights need a specific marking that we will have done in another week or two before they will be available with Tritium. All standard 1" and Pro-Dot sights are currently ready to ship with Tritium - in addition to the Tritium upgrade for existing sights. |
