I posted this is the knife forum a couple weeks ago with no help at all... all they care about is the newer knives lol anyway I bought a 5 degree canted mark 2 blade from the show and was dated to 1967. I also managed to fund a yellow handled divers knife second version I believe that has been buffed so hardly any marks are showing. Anyway, anybody know where I can get a grey steal handle for the canted blade and maybe a divers sheath for the second version yellow handled? I know this is a strecth but thought I might give it a try. I have searched everywhere with no luck

My uncle in Vietnam 1967-1968, grey handled Gerber and full fence XM16E1

Check E-bay, I have seen a few things on there before. You might also try contacting Gerber.

1st, I don't think the handles are removable without damage,I could be wrong. 2nd, I'm running out the door and don't have time to copy/paste the info,, but IIRC, this site tells what kind of paint was actually used. Enjoy this site>http://www.militarycarryknives.com/Knives.htm

I, also, own a Gerber Mark II; (It's on my desk, right now.) but, I have no idea how it's possible to remove the sintered metal handle?  I don't see how it could be done without destroying the present handle?  (Which I, also, doubt has a full, or even a 3/4, tang on the inside.)

The handles are not removable.  I would think an original 67 cat's tongue handle would be near impossible to find.  Your best bet if trying to restore it would be to cannibalize
a later MK2 and then apply the cats tongue finish  in Armorhide gray.

Some yellow handle Gerbers did not have hash marks or scale marks on the blade.

Repro leather dive sheaths are out there.  I would try Ebay and some of the higher end military knife sources.

The blade is at my dad's house now so I wil try to get a picture of it later. It is definately a gerber mark 2 5 degree canted blade from 1967. The blade where it goes in the handle has about a 4" tang hanging down unaltered so it came off some how. Idk is the handle broke or what. Pictures to follow hopefully later

I've got a good condition leather sheath from a mk2 from 83. You need it?

I'll let it go cheap-

Are you sure we're talking about a Gerber, Mark II?  The one with the die-cast aluminum handle.  There's no way I know to repair that handle short of re:casting another one onto the tang; and who's going to do that?  Here's some pictures of what I think you're asking about:

How do you, 'fix' a handle like that?

Yes it is a mark 2 and has the 5 degree cant to it. Thats the only knife that had that cant to it so I know without a doubt its a mark 2. The bottom of the blade looks like your last picture there.

The only way I can think of to add a handle would be to cut off a handle from a donor MK2....drill out the handle for the tang and epoxy or JB weld it on.
Of course the value would be very little to collectors but it is way cheaper alternative than the 2K price of an intact 67 MK2.

I assume you checked the serial number to confirm it's date.  I'd ask a pro knife smith what he thinks can done.

Yes the serial number matches up and I talked to a serious collector. He said he had a handle but would never get rid of it lol

I would contact Gerber and see if they can take your blade and install a handle.  They did that for a friend of mine.

That style tang as pictured in the last photo is usually driven into the handle with some sort of mechanical assistance.

One case where you actually do put a square peg into a round hole.

Can't see why someone couldn't machine a reproduction handle for it.

Handles are found loose in the wild. Just keep checking the knife forums an fleabay. An the loose handles are used to fake rare models. So read the links I posted earlier.
