I have a couple rubber M16A1 trapdoor buttplates in use. I placed a WTB ad but apparently they are hard to find. How much are they going for in good condition? From what I've read they were some of the first trapdoor style buttplates but were not durable enough for hard service and were replaced with the smooth nylon type.  Anyone have a source for these? Thanks

I have only seen them discussed here. I've never seen one in person and I've never seen one for sale. So I would call them rare, but I would not place a really high value on them. The market for them has got to be pretty much limited to the diseased retro heads inhabiting this wonderful forum. You can get a new in wrap standard plate for $5-10. I would say the value is maybe $20 to $30, but that's just a guess. Of course they are only worth what someone will pay.

Figure $30 max to that special person NIW.  One sat on GB for a year or so at $30 with no takers but good condition at best..  Most I've seen were on late 70's export rifle examples.  Kinda says not worthy of US milspec.  Think most wouldn't go over $10-20 shipped as previously stated unless NIW.

I bought one on GB about 3-4 years ago for about $9.00 and thought I got a good deal.  I really like the rubber over the plastic.  I am surprised they did not do them all that was. Maybe the cost more to produce!

I bought a NOS one from Numrich for $4.35 a few months ago.  http://www.gunpartscorp.com/Products/1429310.htm Just had some surface rust that cleaned off easily enough.

Sadly it looks out of stock now.  People are asking $30 for these? Am I mistaken, and you guys are talking about something else?

Hardly,

These are prolific to the point of being the standard buttplate on '70 and '71 era (4 million) SN range M16A1's.

I like them and they serve me well. I have them on my prairie dog rifles and on a couple A1 stocks but on A2 rifles.

I saw one in the EE attached to a stock go for some unholy amount, can't remember how much.
