looks like just an early 604 upper which is somewhat rare.  but not 602 pricing rare.  scottryan was in it at $395 too.

I'm confused too, from the pictures...... it doesn't even look like an original style 604 with rebated port line.

I was watching that one too, I have no idea what that was all about
It's not even the earlier upper with the recess below the port door?
You can buy a 601 upper for that kind of money!
Auction fever at its best I guess

I was watching, went way over what I was willing to spend. Anyone seen a 602 upper for sale?  I've been looking for over a year.

Good Luck! Took me 2+ years and good trade fodder to get mine. Believe it or not, it took me longer to find an original style 604 upper.

Don't think you missed anything.  I had it in my favorites but seller never responded to questions.  No response always kinda sends up the do not bid flag unless dirt cheap.  I would have quit at $175 anyway.  Is a late square forge and if one has been saving coins for a couple years to finish a certain build,  paying 2X,  to some is still a bargain.  Would think even today one in that condition is worth $200ish tops.

Scottyran does that from time to time.  No rhyme or reason.  Guess he has a buyer or is simply spreading around a little of his wealth.  Guessing he didn't win either?  Not much authentic Colt on GB lately without being priced not to sell.  Scottyran is about the only one with decent stuff at a reasonable price.

I'm amazed at what some are paying for the broken receiver stuff too.  We'll eventually read about someone maimed for life with a re-weld receiver blow up or boo hooing it because they killed their or someone else's kid.

I blew the picture up a couple days ago. It looks like a offset bushing in the front lug area. If so, is this still a 604 upper, or just another older SP1 upper?

I bid till about 140.00 then got out....looked like any other run of the mill late 604.....I already got one of those.
Auction fever I guess.......there's one born every minute...uh...someone said.
Someone wanted it real bad.

what would be the highest fair price this upper would usually sell for? I have a line on one for $200. Is that reasonable?

Run of the mill square forge seem to be bringing $190-$200 these days. Round forge..  prolly not too much less as most new guys don't/can't tell the difference.

There was a recent GB auction that ended very quickly.

I saw it and had the opportunity to bid or hit "Buy It Now", sent a question to the buyer, then someone hit the BIN button.

Retro has been climbing steadily into the clouds, exponentially of late. Why? Who knows.

Here's another WTF auction.

Looks like spite bidding.  I've done it.  I think he just felt like taking it to a high bid.  There's lots of folks with money to blow and don't care.  Sometimes you get in the "no one's gettin' a good deal today" mood.  Personally, I think scottryan got more joy out of taking that to $400 than he would have gettin' it for his first bid of $261.

His bidding pattern is typical of what my spite bidding looks like.

$261 - that should clear out all the wishful thinkers.  WTF!  Who outbid me!
$341 - He can have it if he's stupid enough to bid $350.  WTF!
$375 - Ok let's find out if he's really nuts. Yep!  He's nuts.
$395 -  Let's see how nutty he is.  Whew!  That's high enough I'm done.

The other guy is not a newbie, though, so maybe they have some history.  Don't recognize the other bidder, lilpnut.

Veltro, there was a problem with the link in your post, this one should work:

That was a cool upper, too bad it got away.

Meanwhile I had a 603 clone up on GB recently with over 35 watchers that went for less than eight bills.

You will get more by parting them out.

And I couldn't move an original XM16E1 upper assy on the EE for 6 bills. I parted it out, and am happy with what I got, but really, this is getting out of hand. I have one XM16E1 upper receiver in so-so condition that I'm keeping for a build no matter what! THis is why.

All I know is this.......I used to buy gas for 48 cents a gallon.  I bought my hk53 for 25 hundred.  I bought a 66 Corvette for 3500, and if I still had it could sell the wheels for twice that.   It's a sign of the times fellas. You do know you're starting to sound like your dad, right?

"Well I hope to hell you learned something."

That's what I'd sound like, if I started sounding like dear old Dad.  He had occasion to say it a lot, while I was growing up.  Wish I could hear him say it again, just one more time.

Wasn't there another auction a while back that scottryan won or was bidding up that had everyone wondering why?

I hear ya. I too said that to someone just today...........that I wish my dad were still here.  So many things left unsaid.
