Does anybody here have any actual experience with these?  They're 1:7 twist, which some folks are OK with and some are not.  A friend is looking for a fast-twist lightweight 20" for a walk-around "modern" rifle, so no Retros would be harmed during filming assembly of his build..

I don't own one but shot one on my friend's frankenrifle, It was basically a model 711 A2 lower, black A1 upper, 1/7 twist pencil barrel with all A2 furnature. I liked it because it was light and shot 62 grn ss109 just as well as any good 1/7 but felt nice and light like an A1.

My frankin ar with the acog was assembled with that barrel. It's my favorite ar15 ! The barrels are nice had adco do the work to install the gas block.
Buy The barrel! I would do it again.

Mine has proven itself to be equal to or even better than any original barrel and it is nice to be able to shoot my 77gr handloads, although generic 55gr shot better at 25m for some reason on that day making a ragged hole.  I had John Thomas mount my front sight base and highly recommend him at retroarmsworks.com

That rifle is relatively close to what my bud has planned, excepting he intends to use a flat-top upper and differnt optic.  Like I said, he isn't planning a retro build.  But I intend to file the info away for future use myself.

Gentlemen, thanks very much to all of you for the input.

I have been looking at getting one of these barrels for a Retro build, mainly because I only buy & keep 62gr.M855 & M856 ammo around.

I just don't want to HAVE TO start getting M193 also.  I know I'm just lazy, but this way when I take my Family & Friends out shooting,  nobody

has to ask "is this the one that takes the different ammo?".

Plus, even tho I'm building a retro gun, I still want it to shoot any of the available ammo, as best as possible.

Two weeks ago I sent a McKay barrel off to John Thomas to mount on a A1 upper I recently bought.  I got a chance to shoot it today.  The McKay shot very well.  It was 26 degrees with about a 20 MPH cross wind so I only shot from 25M.  I shot two 5 shot strings with 55gr ammo.  II was able to keep 4 of 5 shots within 1 inch.  Twice.  In my opinion that's a good barrel.

Note that John did a very professional job installing the FSB and mounting the barrel to the upper.   I also asked him to sighted it in.  His sighting in was right on.

Color wise the McKay is in dark grey and a match for my CH forge code A1 upper.   The finish is even.  It is marked as noted in the listing.
