Awesome. I am definetly in on one. I like the 1st and the 4th ones the best

I am definitely in. I have small runs of custom patches made for other things I'm involved in and I understand the effort in putting something like this together. I would be happy to support this.

Thanks boywonder, I'm not great at doing skulls and I have a mild obsession with south of the border type day of the dead stuff which is kind of the look I always end up with.
I'll see what I can do :), I also kept things pretty simple where possible so that we don't lose too much detail in the patch. Let me work on it. |
|
Nice design, but you may run into a problem getting the rifles to look right that small, like the ones in the eyes. details are tough to sew.
Good looking designs. |
|
Cool idea, and I'm in for one regardless of the design you settle on (I kinda like #1).
The only thing I'd say is those eyes make the skull look alien. I'd agree that the skull--or at least the eyes--should be a bit more retro. (My $.02, and worth almost what you paid for it!) Keep us posted! |

The ar15.com logo looks the best with the larger rifles on the outside of the skull. What's Latin for "I Will Build Another!"
I'm totally in! ETA I think if you simplify the skull a bit...it would look perfect. Somewhere between the first and second skulls minus the alien eye sockets. Great work! |
|
I like the green one best, but with AR15 logo, but they likely won't approve it. The reticle is cool too though - maybe better, actually. I like the newer, meaner skull. My one suggestion is to have the outline of an XM177E1 or E2 on the left, and rifle on the right. Very cool idea, and I would buy a few!

You've been here a year, you aren't new. Also you are in state so i'm pretty sure I can get one to you

Ok went with a compromise. I took a new skull, simpler than the last for ease of print. I put Morg's Xm177 on the left. Did a muted green color and shopped it onto a patch just so you guys could see what it would look like, also inverted some of the colors to make them stand out better on the patch. I think the clarity of the rifles may suffer but they should give a good idea of what they are Clearly on an actual patch the scrolls, skull and rifles will stand out much more: http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m140/Aeneas2020/retropatchmockupfinsmall.jpg~original View Quote +1 on this design and great work OP! |

Why skulls?
I would rock a dead stealy head with a sight picture in the forehead though good idea for a shirt |

I love it.....great idea and work. I too agree a retro skull and bolt face. But either way.....love the idea....and will be up for at least one.

Whatever you decide on I will definitely want several for myself and siblings.
Way cool idea sir. I'm in! |

I like the more realistic looking skull as far as skulls go, I also prefer the OD green.
Just a thought, maybe include or substitute a steel pot with a cover in there? I'll probably buy one anyway, just leaving some feedback. " /> |

OMG These are SO COOL!
How's about the skull with the rear sight wheel to avoid the ARFcom copyright? I dig the bolt face but the sight wheel is equally iconic to those of us in the know and it is ONLY retro whereas the bolt face could go either way. Diggin the subdued too. I am an addict. Can I get one too? ETA My mild OCD don't like the carbine and the rifle on the same patch. SYMMETRY MAN! There MUST be SYMMETRY! |
|
Can we maybe get one of the rifle silhouettes to be of a model 601 (squared off neck on the stock & duck bill type 3 prong flash hider)?
You could also make the rifle components nearly twice as big if they were crossed behind the skull... |

As has been stated - whatever comes out on top, I am in! Also like the shirt idea. I have used custom ink . com and they were easy to work with - made shirts for my trophy bull elk hunt a couple of years ago. It was good karma for the guys who helped me spot and successfully get my 6x7

This. Doesn't seem retro to me without a piece of Vietnam issue gear, particularly the helmet. Maybe mix in a bit of Downey Jr "full retard" for good measure. ETA: |

Oh, yah, me too. I forgot to say I'll take a couple. Vinyl window stickers would be good, too.

Id be in for a green patch I think skull with steel pot and crossed 607s would look strac
|
|
It seems a little silly to call it retro and then put an Eotech'ish reticle on the skull.
|
|
Patches, tshirts and window stickers... Cool idea. Anything Retro looking to make the point. Skull in steel pot with any of the 601/2/3/4/5/7 models to clearly show the triangle hand guards. Black and white or olive drab to give the sense of being a unit patch from back in the day.

Let me whip some more stuff up this evening. Thanks for the feedback guys. I have a skull wearing an M1 helmet somewhere.
There are some important decisions that need to be made though. We can get bogged down in having mean skulls and which rifles to have but if we do patches (my original plan) in all likelihood the details will be lost which is why I was trying to keep the design simple. Now...if you guys would prefer tshirts with a nice logo on it then I can really go to town. I personally prefer patches because I can wear them on my jacket or hat. I can try to come up with something that looks cool on both but just remember a 3x3 or 4x4 patch will lose a lot of the details you guys are looking for. Just FYI the reason I went for the crosshair on the skull was that I originally put the old armalite logo in there but I didn't want to run across any copyright laws on that either. I like the idea of the rear sight wheel for a larger design but I do worry on a 4x4 that it would get lost a little. Will post up some more this evening |

FYI, those rifles are going to by TINY on a patch. They also look a little odd to me as vertical on a round patch- the rocker on top and bottom and the rifles on the side say "square" and leave some open chunks on the round patch. I personally would also ditch the rear sight wheel (OR, instead of a skull use the rear sight wheel!)
How about the skull with helmet and use the rifle crossed below (I would go with two M16A1's and "outline" the front one where it crosses the back one) as the crossbones. Another cool effect is to have them cut around the profile instead of being round, just like we did with the Manticore "Rocker" patches. I you want I can get the patches mocked up how I am thinking. Please take this as contstructive criticism, I think you have a great concept and just trying to help. |
