That's pretty interesting. Thanks for sharing.

Well I guess M193 shouldn't be lobbed at windshields then!

I bet the M855 would fare better.

(And I bet that type of performance from M193 precipitated the change to M855!)

That's why I like's my 1/9 barrels.

From what I remember reading in that era, Taylor did not like the M-16 and I think his bias skewed a lot of these tests he was involved in.

Ah, good ole Chuck. Somewhat biased gun writer. I enjoyed his articles though. Always was shooting cool stuff back then.

Interesting test OP.

Seems to line up with the things I have read.

I have the original "Swat Showdown" special from about 1984 or so.  It was a special edition that was all tests and evaluations I'll have to dig it out. It is really a good piece, for the time.

If someone has the time and know how  make PDF or JPG files of the pages to share here, (and will promise to send it back to me- I bought it new, and have protected and nurtured it!), I will send it to them.  Has G3s, Leader, Bushmaster Assault rifle (rifle version of Armgun) FALs, AR15/M16 and AR18/180, Valmet, Galil, etc..  LOTS of great stuff.  I don't have the scanner, know how, or time to do it, but someone here might.

Chuck Taylor was ALWAYS partial to Thompsons and 1911s.. Maybe he is Jeff Cooper's secret twin????

In the Big Test issue in I think 84, Taylor shot a large Detroit GM car with an M16, the M193 went through the window, cut the steering wheel, went through the cardboard target, the upper part of the seat, through the back seat and out the trunk lid.

He pointed out that this was "Interesting but tactically insignificant ". Oh well!

I had that issue, might still be around somewhere unless it was in the bunch lost in the flood.

IIRC he usually mentioned how he ditched his M16 for a Thompson when he was in Vietnam.
