That's a rivet to limit the capacity to 10 rounds...I have one somewhere, and offered it to someone in a ban state awhile back, but haven't been able to find the damn thing. Mine's a Colt. Definitely civilian, but factory from what I understand. 1994 BS...

BTW - I doubt the .223 marked floorplate was original to that body. It's too late for such a floorplate.

Morg........"it's too late for such a floorplate".   It's a circle 1 magazine. That would be plenty early for that floorplate, no?

So you think it should be 5.56? Funny thing, this came in  a box of different mags that came straight from the National Guard. One wouldn't think there would be any civilian mags there.

I agree with Lou. The floorplate and mag is an early one, so the question arises as to how/why the magazine was modified.

You're confusing me.  Sounds like you think that only civie mags were marked .223?   I think with your mag being a "circle 1" that makes it early enough to carry a floorplate marked .223.   I have several circle1 mags and they are all florrplated .223.    5.56 didn't come along until about '64 I blieve.

how/why?   hmmm.......no idea with certainty.  You say it came straight from the NG.  I don't know why the NG would have modified it to reduce capacity.  Seems that would have only been done by a civie, but you don't really know where all that mag may have been.   Years ago, I bought a few original AR10 waffle mags. All of them had a rivet to reduce to 10 rounds. Bummed me out.

Might be limited due to zeroing or qualification.

I just noticed something else about the magazine.  It has a green tone to the finish that includes the rivet.  I have over 100 G.I. mags of different manufacture (I assume most of them are surplus) and I have never seen one this color........interesting!
