I was given this when my dad passed away and he apparently got this from his uncle who was a Vietnam Vet.  It has no markings on the barrel that I can find and the only marking I can find is a very faint C on the upper.  I will take more pictures if needed.  Thank you

Well, I see an off-set pin, so at one time it was mounted on a SP1 lower.  Looks like a close copy of a 10" barrel XM177E1.  Very dark finish, though, for a Colt.  I'm not an expert, though.

OOOOPS, looks like a .750 inch barrel under the FSB, NOT original XM177!  Maybe an old 1980s PWA or SGW rework.

FSB looks like those Olympic Arms cast ones.  Barrel is aftermarket and not USGI.  Upper has the sear cutout so USGI more than likely.  Ejection port cover is a later one so it has been replaced.

I remember my dad told me that when my uncle had it in the 80's it had a large suppressor on it not one of the large flash suppresoors.

Makes sense.  SGW used lots of USGI upper receivers refinished black.  They also had a HBAR type 10 or 11" barrel available back then.

Getcha a virgin lower, a small to large pin adapter, and a SIG brace, you've got a nice AR pistol.

it's already a small hole upper.  it has the adapter pin for a large hole lower on it which makes it look like a large hole pin.  even better

another option is permanently attached a xm177 style flash hider like bricks if it gets it to legal length and build a nice carbine out of it.

I am a little confused as I have been told that the C stamp means that it is a colt  but you are saying SGW reworked Colt's parts and put their barrels on them ?   And if it is a GI upper is it a 609 with 609 parts ?  Thanks in advance as I am new at this.

the C stamp forward of the ejection port along with the triangle VP is a Colt proof mark meaning it was test fired.  it's not uncommon for these uppers from the 60s to make it to the commercial market by the 80s and early AR manufacturers used a lot of surplus parts in their builds since it was a new industry and not all the parts were readily available.

so basically it's a usgi upper rebuilt some with commercial parts.

OP - What are your plans for the upper?

I plan on selling it after I get a few more opinions on it.

That's a Olympic barrel and a USGI upper , I can spot a cast FSB from across a room... If it had an A1 port door on it it may be worth more.
300sh max if I was putting it on my gunshow table,
