I just had to post some before and after pics of my BCG
I bought this a while back on the EE and then promptly sent it
off to member HipShot so he could give it a onceover. I have to say
IMHO HipShot did an outstanding job on the overhaul. I'm proud of this
one, Props to HipShot

The main thing is replaced the gas key with the proper one and stake it properly
Then it was add the correct parts like the firing pin retainer and correct flat head firing pin
the bolts for the gas key when I bought it were not correct either but are GTG now

Nice work.  looks great!  Is the gas key staking what would be considered period appropriate?  I am assuming so - just wondered if the square staking was later on?

I used a 601 gas key with really poor light period correct gas key staking and installed it on the XM16E1 carrier, then installed the correct 3mm gas key screws (Not the current 1/8" screws) Then I used the same type of punch they would have used for early staking and really gave it a wallop to where this time the staking will hold. After that it was basically just installing a new extractor spring and buffer on the Colt MP bolt and adding a flathead FP and finishing it off with a Chrome FP retainer pin.

Exactly. The early staking was just done between the two screws with a prick punch. You will see the outside double staking added (what we consider normal now) on many earlier carriers. Many of us believe that Colt went back and restaked many BCGs that were still in inventory because of complaints from the military, though I don't think anyone knows for sure - maybe DeWatters. I believe my XM16E1 BCG has both kinds of staking, IIRC. Pretty common. I'll try and take some pics today.
