Several people noted this auction before it happened, but I didn't even take it seriously because I figured the price would end up way out of my league.
But I just checked the "prices realized" list....

$19,550.00  (That's hammer price plus the buyer’s premium!  In other words, that's the full price except shipping and your tax stamp!)

Auction site.

I am PISSED at myself!!
WHY the hell didn't I place a bid??

I should have never looked at the results.  I'm going to wear out my boot kicking myself in the ass.

Look at it this way. You didn't play the man's game and allow yourself to blow 20k on something that should be a grand max in a normal world.

That's at least how I try to make myself feel better about it.

I'm trying, dude.  It just ain't working.
I seriously thought about bidding $25k but felt like I'd be wasting my time.  I never dreamed that might have got it.

Converted SP1s are selling for more than this went for.

That's my grail gun...and I didn't even try for it.

I've been looking at the same rifle.  It has the original side gas system too if you look closely.  The bakelite looks like it just came off the manufacturing line.  This rifle is clean.

They also have a Sniper Mauser built for the SS with Hensoldt scope, and SS Death Skull stamp.

There is also a Stoner 63 belt fed system.

Swedish 6.5x55 BAR's

1800's era machine guns galore

Artillery pieces

MG34's

MG42's

MP44's

Thompson's ( a lot of them)

Lugers

Rare SMG's

Rare GPMG's

Rare rifles

Dammit.  If I missed it, I was really hoping you were the one who got it.

Would love to know who the buyer is...and whether he'd be interested in a fast 10% profit on the investment!

Ol Gunner look at it this way. Was it possibly a rewat or pre sample? If not, it's nice and a piece of history, but who would shoot it? I had a mint transferable Portuguese gun with neat provenance, but never shot it. It was nice to hold and look at (and say to myself, not many of these around), but that got old after so long.

There were rumors that somethign was not 100% correct about the rifle.  However, I did confirm with the auction house that the rifle has the correct date of birth and manufacturer. No way it had ever been rewelded.  Rewat?  Who cares? There were no weld marks.

After my inquire the description was updated th emphasize that the rifle was a C&R transferable.  Not a sample.

A Cowboy Moral

A cowboy was out hunting strays one hot summer day.  He had been at it since daylight and it was now late in the very hot, dusty afternoon.  He was beat down from the heat and parched something terrible when he came upon a little creek.  The water wasn't very deep but it was clear and wet and inviting.  He jumped off his horse and fell face first into the water.  He drank his fill and spent a good time just soaking in the stream, cooling off, letting the water run over his head and neck and down his shirt.  Finally, refreshed and re-hydrated he got back on his horse and turned and rode up stream a little ways.  He rounded a long bend in the creek, and there, laying in the middle of the stream that he had just drank from was a cow.  A dead, bloated, hair slipping off, burst open cow.  He got off and puked until his asshole was drawed up nearly to his navel.

The moral to that story?  After you drink from a creek never re-mount and ride up stream, you might find something you won't like.

After you buy something don't go looking to see if you could have gotten a better deal.
After you turn down a deal don't go back and see if it was better than you thought.
