Hey everyone i have a few questions being new to the retro world.

I ordered a RTI parts kit with a barrel and was wondering if anyone else has ordered 1 and what kind of condition they are in and the specs of the barrel. I believe mine is a B grade.

Another question is mkays a1 lowers any news if they fixed the right side safety markings?

If not i was thinking of buying 1 and filling in the markings then duracoating the recievers to match?

If i do go this way what color should i use colt grey? Heard thats to dark?? What about parker grey?

Sorry for all the questions ha keep in mind i am college student that doesnt make much money so i cant have things professional done and i enjoy doing things myself. Having pride in my work

I thought mkays reciever would be good being nodak has a long waiting list!!!!
Thanks again sorry for so many questions! !!!

Welcome to the "retro forum".
First thing is that there is no such thing as too many questions. Questions and answers are what this forum is best at. Having said that, I can't help you much with your questions, as I too have more Q's than answers. I'm not familier with Duracoats colors, but I might suggest Norrells Moly Resin.  Hopefully, this link works.....http://www.johnnorrellarms.com/molyresin_about.asp    Depending on what vintage you are trying to duplicate he offers "greyish black flat" and "grey flat".

I've bought a few RTI kits (grade C) and they have been more like B+ kits. I'm told it is just luck of the draw on what box you get. The pictures of the kits with barrels that other members have posted look good. The barrels re-use old FSB, so there can be slightly off pin holes. Purely cosmetic and should not effect anything. DuraCoat Colt gray is a bit darker then older lowers that have aged. I've used it and I am happy with the result.

I'm a total newby too, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

You really won't know what you'll get until you get it.  I just got one of the kits w/barrel from them.  Black upper, black charging handle, modern unused A2 slip ring.  Not what I was expecting.  But it's surplus, and you kinda get whatever you get.

Barrel I got was 1:8 with the FSB installed, pinned sorta funky.  Looks like when the gas port got drilled it wasn't cleaned up at all cos I see some material in barrel in that spot.  The barrel was dangling outta the box when delivered, they jammed it in and it broke through.

Some parts may be filthy, and some may be newer and relatively clean.  I would advise a thorough cleaning and inspection of every single part.  I strip the upper first thing and wash that in the sink with soap, hot water, and a toothbrush.  I use rubbing alcohol to clean the furniture.  Everything else gets cleaned with Hoppes then oiled with CLP.
