I thought there was no such thing, but I just saw this pic and it looks like an A2 lower.  What do you think?  Anybody ever seen an A2 lower with an A1 upper in the IDF?

Im sure the Isrealis dont care if a A2 lower is on a A1 as long as it shoots.

i think it's a full fenced A1, the buffer tube boss area doesn't look reinforced like an A2.  i could be wrong and it could be the shadows playing tricks too.

Has anyone ever seen one configured like this?

Magnification clearly shows the beefed-up pivot pin area.  I can't make out if there is or is not a receiver extension reinforcement.  It's either an A2 lower, or a transitional A1->A2 (XM16A1E2?)

The IDF is more 'creative' with their builds than the Air Force.  Nothing the IDF does surprises me.

Well I guess an A2 lower on an A1 upper is a correct option for a build, especially a mismatched one.

Interesting.

The IDF does have some A2E3s (M16A3 - M16A2 - but full auto) - they used to use them as DMRs - my understanding is that they've been phased out in that role, so it might not be unreasonable to imagine them re-building them in typical IDF fashion into carbines:

They've also got some M4s:

The photograph you posted is interesting, too - the selector doesn't appear to have a "tic," making it look like an A1 part - also, it really does look like it has the non-recinforced receiver extension boss, but it looks like it has the A2 reinforcements for the pivot pin.

I suppose it's possible that it's just the shadows making the receiver extension boss look like an A1 profile, and who knows - maybe it's a replacement selector - but it's an interesting looking photo nevertheless.

Anything is possible.  I am sure there has got to be one ore two out there.

That's the nice thing about doing an IDF build.  Nothing is really "wrong", it's leftovers.

I would like to see more examples of A2 lowers with A1 uppers in service with the IDF.  Anyone?

Might give the retro purists a heart attack, but mixmaster Franken15's thrown together with whateverthehell parts are available at the moment might be a legitimate category of Retro interest.  IMHO.

I don't think I recall having seen much documentation for 604-style "slickside" uppers in use with the IDF.

Luckily - if you want to use one of those - they're much more common, with a nearly identical combination of other parts/features for a USAF rebuild.

That being said, with both - on the one hand - there's the realm of "what's possible" versus a couple of fairly common and well known combinations/variations that "typify," IMHO, an IDF or USAF carbine.  I'm not sure I'm a big fan of the "shake the parts box and call the carbine that falls out an IDF or USAF build," but then again, it's hard to say "right" or "wrong" definitively if it's a "theoretically possible" combination.

Hypothetically speaking, I could build a rifle with 601 barrel, a 4.5" moderator, an A2 upper, a partial fence lower, and an M4 stock - "theoretically" all of the parts exist within USAF armorer shops - but that doesn't mean that it's a "USAF carbine" clone.
