THat's a good pic Frens, but has been posted earlier. We determined that the negative was flippedd around and it's backwards. Someone fixed it in the earlier post. Look at the 'left-handed'  weapons and it becomes clear.

Are you sure those were not secret prototype left handed M16s issued only to LRRPs in Vietnam for evaluation LOL!

Some pics I've found trawling through the net and had on the drive...

XM16E1/XM148 combo

XM177E1, often issued to dog handlers I've heard

seems to be a nice machine shop conversion, looks like three parts of 20 rounder mag welded together, strangely enough when you tilt your head to the right you can see it being made-up from three parts :)

some more XM16E1 action

I like that machine shop mag - one of the better pics I've seen, but I see 5 parts. Looks like it roughly follows the curve of an AK mag - which would make sense to me if I were in a VN shop trying to TIG one of these together... also, is it me, or did they braze a bent stripper clip to the back side of it to stiffen it up?

Get a load of this mag!! Someone wanted some extra fire power!

Also here is a lucky turkey doing his tour in Nam to boost the morale of the troops

If this a 60s era rifle its pretty much equal to a garand in use in the 90s. Strange to think about it that way

That's a beautiful rifle, but really doesn't belong in this thread. This is the 'Real Deal' thread. There is a pic thread for builds however. Welcome to the forum BTW.

Hopefully not previously posted.

The REAL Hal Moore. Not Mel Gibson.

Link instead of a picture because there is a dead NVA soldier in the picture.

Saigon evacuation.

Two Stoner 63s appear to be hanging on the wall behind him.  You can tell by the stocks.

1965 Ia Drang 1st Cavalry Division. Nice shot of the XMs they were using. They look very alert and on edge.

Great pics, but a question - government carbine? I haven't heard that term before. It obviously has a 16" barrel but a full-fence lower. Pics are very professional. Thumbs up.

It's the "model name" of the R/LE/AR6520 - it was rollmarked "AR-15A2/GOVT CARBINE."

Just like the 6721, which was the "AR-15A3/TACTICAL CARBINE" and the 6920 used to be known as the "LAW ENFORCEMENT CARBINE."

Frankly, I think the model names were completely backwards - the 6920 should've been "government," and the 6721 should've been "law enforcement," given their (at the time) preference for 1/9.  I guess you wouldn't really call the 6520 a "tactical carbine," though.

Damn Lump, helluva photo dump!  And aside from the obvious differences in equipment, I can just tell by their eyes and faces that I'm looking at photos of recon men vs. line grunts.

Great pics Lumpy.  One pic is of General Henry Shelton another pic is Major General Kenneth Bowra, early in their careers, both SF.
