I think your right. He looks farbylicious and much too clean AND he's wearing targets on his sleeves!

The first one is from http://www.history.army.mil/books/Vietnam/riverine/images-full/f1.jpg

Second Farby Fellow is from http://students.cis.uab.edu/tyallen/VN.jpg

Those are just the picture links. I saw another that was CLEARLY Farb (two WAY overweight PFC's) but I don't remember if it was from the same sight as the second pic.

Looks like a cut-down 16 to me.  Barrel looks longer than a 605, unless the cap isn't all the way on.  Good pic and example, either way.

I'm curious if i have the chronological  latest A1 "action" pic –– this pic was Sept 1990, –– and no, its not in basic training either   that was out in the dez and it seemed like we were the last unit on earth to get A2's  (which arrived before the ground war started in earnest)

Repost from original thread.  Joescuba during Desert Storm, wearing helmet with sewn on jump wings.

Early 80's. Me with my M16A1/ M203 grenade launcher.  Picking up my motorcycle for a parachute drop.

That last pic is a great illustration of how canteen covers were utilized to carry magazines. Joescuba - you rode a motorcycle out of an airplane with a parachute on? That is hard core LOL. Seriously though, what kind of bike? Kaw?

I think that one was a KZ250.  I also had a custom made tactical mountain bike in olive drab paint and a very cool Ducati street bike.  The container in the background is full of all my kit/weapons, parachutes, scuba gear, etc.  I had one small container for the short visits and a semi truck size container for the longer stay.  They contained/ had everything a growing boy needed for a paid government  adventure vacation.  Ah the Reagan years/era!

I was part of an AERIAL DELIVERY/MOBILITY TEAM here in the states and one of the things were did was to help train Pilot, loadmasters, Combat Control teams for air drops. The  reserve/regular SF troops and Army PT's. Most were fresh out of jump school. Just more training.

We were the opposing forces. It was up in the mountains of northen Calif. It was a lot of fun for us.
We did this about 1 or 2 times a month.
The mission was they would drop in at night and capture us.
We got very good at it and about 1/2 the time we captured them.
I dug out one of the pictures that was taken at the end of one of the training sessions.
YEA! It was staged for the picture.
The M-16's were brand new out of the crate when we got them. We only shot blanks out of them.
I am thinking this may have been in late 1966.

Notice the 100 mile hour tape on the sling buckles.

I was part of an aerial delivery/mobility in vietnam. 67-68. We operated forward land strips and did some "kicker work" at times. I will dig out some pictures and post them later.

He's a local guy, name is Mark Bills, was a Capt. in the Green Berets attached to MLT-2. I can't recall the team name but will see if I can get it.

Thanks buddy!

Interesting how they all (well not all, but a lot of them) have tape or something wrapped around the front of the handguard.  Was that to avoid the rattle from the sling loop by keeping is secure?  It also looks like they have para cord or string attached to that part.  Possibly to the sling also.  Huh.

Nice pic.

Yup, we have about 250 of them, currently in the process of changing out the uppers for 14.5" Spikes and collapsible butt stocks.

A few of these rifles don't look like they were ever used.

Are there any laws against you selling the uppers?   You could take a big chunk out of your Spike's bill and make alot of people happy at the same time.

Yeah there are a few federal laws that prohibit the sale of any of these parts.  The rifls still belong to the military.

What are the laws about you, oh, leaving those parts there on the table and, say, coming back in about an hour?

I told the other guy that we could retire with what was laying on that table but we would have to find a country that doesn't have an extradition agreement with the US...

LOL.. for sure.. and although those are a beautiful sight.. and yes Im just as jealous as everyone else that they are not legal to own... (looks away from soapbox), but I do think they are looking a little, uh, rough to have been agency rifles? Did you just get them from the mil or something?

To me the most hilarious part of this government program is most departments replace the entire upper and change the stock out.

They get a free M16A1, buy a new stock and new upper.  Since there's no auto-sear it's a semi-auto when they're done.

They're saving $120 for a lower and $70 for an LPK over buying a whole gun and can't even offset the costs of upgrading by selling the unwanted parts.

Insanity.

I argued the point of replacing everything expcept the lower.  You can imagine how that went.

To my understanding Agencies cannot sell the parts.
