New to the 300 BO... any info is appreciated. Did some reading of older posts but figured I'd ask here.
Have a BA 9" barrel coming, got it off the EE, figured why not, lots of friends have the BO and I have enjoyed shooting theirs suppressed. I suppose it's time I get into the chambering. I have an unlimited free supply of LC brass so making cases will be no problem. I'll be using a YHM LT can, will roll my own ammo, mostly interested in suppressed shooting at 100 yards and in on hogs. Bullet and powder recommendations are welcome. Looking for performance experiences with this particular barrel, recommendations as far as a gas block, would like the can to sit just under the rail, so rail recommendations are needed, and any other "If I knew then what I know now" tips welcome. |

My 9" BA 300 is one of my favorite. Haven't shot subs (don't have a can) but it has eaten everything from 110 to 150 grain so far. Accuracy has been very good. For me it is gassed perfectly with a standard low profile gas block and carbine buffer. If I knew then what I know now, I would have gotten into 300 blackout sooner and stacked up a few more cases. |

After many years of thinking about the .300 BO I finally got my feet wet. I picked up a new barrel, gas tube, and FS off the EE for what I figured was a great price, $125.00 shipped.
The barrel is a 9" Ballistic Advantage 1/7 twist 5R. The can is a YHM LT and the rest is just standard parts. I have 16 pounds of AA #9 so that's what I've been working with. I've successfully loaded both Sierra 200gr SMK's and Nosler 220gr CC's. So far, everything from 10.5gr down to 8.5gr has cycled suppressed with bolt lock back... perfect 3:00 ejection with 9.0grs and 8.5grs. The 8.5grs are coming in right at 980-1000 FPS... they sound fantastic. The only test group I had time to fire, and not in the best rest conditions, at 50 yards are in the 1.75" range which is more than adequate for my needs... which are hog head shots at under 50 yards over a feeder. I'm sure if I bench the rifle I can achieve slightly better, maybe 1.5". At least now I'm in the .300 BO game and have something to do with that AA#9 that's been sitting on my bench for years.

Finally get to contribute something to this thread. Semi-custom DDM4 PDW 300 BLK. Lower was originally a 2014 DDM4 MK18 factory SBR that I stripped down and overhauled for this build. At just shy of 19.5" OAL when stock is fully collapsed, it fits perfectly in my Vertx Commuter 2.0 sling bag. Waiting on a Knight's micro 300 meter folding rear sight to arrive and may add a weapon light later on.

I have a minuscule amount of 300 BLK ammo that I paid exorbitant prices per round on, so it sits unused at the moment  But FWIW, the stock is awesome and I don’t find any issues or weirdness in shouldering it.
