Only bad thing about the 12.5" barrel is it will be months before I can see or actually shoot it.

NICE!! Just about what I want to build, can you check the weight without optics?

Thanks,

Hmmm, I am very interested in this upper/lower combo. I have an 16'' AR10 and I have been gathering parts to change it over to a 20'' long range gun. So far I have a 20'' barrel, AR10 A2 stock, Samson 13'' rail and a low profile gas block. I suppose I could use all of these parts on a Mega, considering that Samson sells a DPMS pattern barrel nut that could fix my Armalite barrel into place and work with my AR10 BCGs. I have several standard LPK laying around that I could use for the lower, I even have some 308 P-mags that my dad picked up thinking they would work with my AR10. Sounds like the only thing I would need is the mega receiver group and a DPMS bolt release and I could have a second 308 AR in the safe.

Am I missing anything here, sounds to me like all of that should work?

here is the barrel nut you are looking for, if you are using the STAR10-13.2" rail ETA: or any other os the STAR-10 rails for that matter

I see that it is angle cut like the Armalites and the KAC. However would the lower and upper be interchangeable with either the Armalite or SR25?

I can tell you from first-hand experience the MA-TEN upper will slide onto a KAC or LMT lower, but the pins will not engage. Everything lines up, but the pins on the lower and the holes on the upper are not the same size. Most likely a bit of Dremel work on the pins or the holes would allow the MA-TEN upper to mount on a KAC or LMT lower.

Thanks! Sounds like it might be Armalite pattern then.

Just an FYI, I can take my MA-TEN upper and put it on a DPMS lower with no issues, other than the pins being tight, but they still pushed in and out by hand with no tools.

The profile of the rear of the upper doesn't match the profile of the DPMS lower, does it? I'd think there would be a sizable gap there...

Of course there is a gap, just like an AR-10 upper on a DPMS lower, the point of me trying it was finding out that the pins lined up just fine and fit just fine (just like an AR-10 upper on a DPMS lower). People have ran AR-10 uppers on DPMS lowers in the past.

In a post apocalyptic world, this will be very useful information.

Someone that has an AR-10 should try the upper on a MA-TEN lower, and report back. I have no need to buy a complete AR-10 (I have a bunch of SR-25 pattern mags) but am thinking about having an AR-10 upper (mag shelf removed) that I can swap onto my MA-TEN lower.

Mega doesn't make complete guns, only receivers.

As Josh said, Mega only sells upper and lower receivers as a matched set, not as a complete rifle.

I paid $499.95 for my upper/lower set from Aim Surplus

I read through most of the pages earlier this week. Now that I am considering a mega set a little more seriously I was wondering if anyone has done any reliability testing on these things and knows how well they work? (i know there are lots of variables because mega only makes the receiver combo) I might have missed it by I didn't see any range reports in the 8 or so pages?

You are correct, it will be hard to judge the reliability of a build from just the upper and lower. Know this though, mega is quality gear. I personally have 4 of thier ar15 lowers and uppers built, as well as 2 of the MaTen reciever sets. All have been in spec, and worked well. Mega has some of the best service in the industry as well, i know from dealing with them first had. 3 of the lowers i bough had magwells that would not drop Pmags free, they dropped gi metals free fine but i wasnt happy with them not dropping the pmags. I called up mega asking if there was anything i could do to fix the issue, and they said send them in and we will replace them no charge. They took my old parts off and rebuilt the lowers for me. I still say it was an issue with the mags as it would drop metal gi fine, but Mega didnt give me a run around or say call Magpul, they said if i am not happy they are not happy and to send them back. Its service like that, that keeps me coming back.

Again all of my mega parts have been inspec, and gone together without a hitch. If you put quality parts on thier reciever sets it will run. If it doesnt, dont look at the recievers as the issue, atleast not untill everything else has been proven correct. Then if it is the reciever for some strange reason, know that Mega will make it right, with no fuss on thier end.

As far as costs on my builds, 2.5ish and 2k ish. I saved some coin by going with the EE for new parts that people bought and didnt use, but any build with parts from someone like rainier or gts is going to run you alittle over 2k or 3k depending on the setup.
