Quoted: That's odd. Never heard of that happening before, especially with a good Vortex optic. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted: Yes, I've been thinking about this, too.....it'd give me a bit of flexibility. I really like a lot of Vortex scopes but each time I try one of their optics at the local store...they are broken ( specifically the electronics....and it isn't the battery ) right out of the box. I don't know what to make of that....but it bugs me. That's odd. Never heard of that happening before, especially with a good Vortex optic. I have a kind of luck that you just have to see to believe. Everyone who first meets me thinks I exaggerate all the weird shit that happens to me....I invited them to hang with me for a week. I rarely hear from them again. |

Again, beautiful gun. Gun shoots really well. The kreiger barrel was a step up over the JP. I have had no pressure issues with hornady 140 match stuff still using the JP bolt and firing pin. I had a long range event last weekend. I put my vortex on it with a American Defense recon x mount. The problem was our range even stretched out to 1200 yards. With no MOA adjustment in the mount I had to dial to 9.7 and hold over the additional 4.5 on top of that. The wind made it hard to play. I haven't gotten to do any extended group accuracy work with it. I have a 20moa american defense mount that should be in soon after which I will re-zero and shoot a few groups with factory ammo. After that I will be loading my own. I mailed out my rail to controlled chaos that does my cerakote work for me. I forgot to mention there was an anti rotational piece in the box. Luckily SLR are great folks and they sent me another one. I ordered another 308 rail for a 308 gun Im putting together thanks to this great customer service. So it had 20 rounds through it and went out to get coated then was thrown together and stretched to 1000 yards that day. I don't even want to claim the 1200 because it felt forced. Would have really liked less wind for the day but it worked out. |

I ended up with a PRI 20MOA base with Leupold QR low rings, only because medium rings put the ocular lense a bit too high for me and the only quality low rings I could find were the QR rings. I'm not crazy about them, but they work. Longest shots on my CM are 1300yds, one of those perfect days when I had no wind, perfect trace and good ammo. What is the final weight of your rig? Also, what trigger are you using? |

Does anyone know of an upper receiver that fits the MaTen BUT has a forward assist?

Someone had mentioned Aero was going to make one, but I think they were mistaken. As far as I know, with the exception of their standard AR-15 receivers.....there be no such creature. |

I asked aero when they first mentioned their 308 receivers if they were going to make an angle cut upper and lower, and they said yes, but i think they've given up on that because of how well the DPMS style is selling.
Oh well. I've got an extra MaTen lower that's I've been brain storming over and wanted something with a forward assist. Mainly for aesthetics. I wish Mega would make one, but probably wouldn't sell enough. |

Nick, I had this problem at first, here is what you do- Sloooooowly open and close your upper about a zillion times watch to see if the back of the carrier is actually pushing the buffer enough to displace it. Mine didn't and Clint/Slash/heavybuffers said he frequently sees that problem on billet uppers and lowers. The problem is the buffer retainer pin is slightly too far back, not letting the buffer slam against the carrier the way it should. Mine would just contact as it closed, on the bottom corner of the carrier. As it closed all the way I could tell it was no longer contacting but several thousandths. I stuck my buffer on a lathe and cut an edge around it, just the height and depth of the retainer pin. Now it sits over the pin slightly and contacts the carrier perfect. Never needed a FA since then. Good luck |

Just one small caution, if you go too far you'll have to push the buffer back to close the halves. As long as the bottom of the carrier strikes the face of the buffer, not the top, you'll be just fine. I'm thinking I'm going to have to replace my gas block soon. When I built my 6.5 the only adjustable block I could put my hands on was the JP, but it has a simple adjustment screw that seems to move on it's own. Any favorite .936" adjustable gas blocks? I'm going to hit mine with some green loctite and see how long it lasts, but I'd really like a steel one anyway. |

SLR you have to be careful with ID of rails on .936 the sentry 9 set screw will work with the SLR rails I like but the clamp on will not. That sucked because I had the clamp on originally for my JP barrel and had to get a different one. |

First post but have been reading and learning about a build. I'm at the point to finish my build and need bcg and barrel. I most likely get a rainier ultra match dpms. So what bcg I don't want low mass so jp out. Dpms with jp bolt sounds nice but pricey. I have been thinking of wmd's bcg but can't find any info on there 308. Anyone have any info on it? If anyone has any info that wasnt coved in this thread I it would be awesome.
Also I see problems with some extractors being to sharp or needing orings. I'm confused so please explain procedure on the oring and when needed. Also how to know if extractor is sharp? marks on brass? If it is sharp do you file it? Pictures of the two would help. Want to know before a problem may arise. |

I'm confused so please explain procedure on the oring and when needed. Also how to know if extractor is sharp? marks on brass? If it is sharp do you file it? Pictures of the two would help. Want to know before a problem may arise. View Quote Im running a Noveske barrel, and the WMB NiB BCG. I have had one problem with the extractor, but only put around 50 rounds through mine, so its still too soon to say that I have the same problem as everyone else. Other than that, Im in the same boat as you about this o-ring deal! hopefully someone can go into more detail about that. |

Sounds like they put the oring around the extractor spring. Hope to learn more. Wish you luck with yours |

You'll need the special KAC wrench and vice fixture though, so you'll probably want to send it off for install. Ayan at boltcarrier does good work. |

The big guns can be QUITE difficult to shoot groups with.
If your fundamentals, such as a consistent cheek weld, are not 100% dialed in, you're gonna have a bad day. |

Is it just a matter of using the same movements until they become habits? |

Is it just a matter of using the same movements until they become habits? A lot of them are sensitive to how they're gripped, and not doing the exact same thing with them every time is easy to do. The head movement is a problem with parallax in the scope, primarily, but can also influence the grip/pressure situation. I hear you on that brake. Those JP brakes are about like being slapped in the head with a board. Double up on your ear pro. |

Took the wife shooting today, it was her first time shooting my Creedmoor and her first time shooting longer distances than 100yds. She did pretty well, it took her a long time to figure out how to see through a scope, but she made several hits at 545yds today. Target was a railroad gusset plate, so about 8" x 14". She shot the hell out of it with the AR prior to dragging out the big gun, but that was at about 20yds. http://i981.photobucket.com/albums/ae294/SCW-Shooter/Guns/1737B579-7769-4623-8A8D-0942CB0275B7.jpg?1419482862020&1419482864507 http://i981.photobucket.com/albums/ae294/SCW-Shooter/Guns/7425F5C4-3FC5-4FDA-87F5-61B79B0B4ABE.jpg?1419482862020&1419482864507 View Quote Is that the 24" Fulton Armory barrel? you have to be careful with ID of rails on .936 the sentry 9 set screw will work with the SLR rails I like but the clamp on will not. That sucked because I had the clamp on originally for my JP barrel and had to get a different one. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

I'm thinking I'm going to have to replace my gas block soon. When I built my 6.5 the only adjustable block I could put my hands on was the JP, but it has a simple adjustment screw that seems to move on it's own. Any favorite .936" adjustable gas blocks? I'm going to hit mine with some green loctite and see how long it lasts, but I'd really like a steel one anyway. I was under impression the sentry 9 clamp on would work under their 308 rails. |
