I had a similar problem with my phase 5 tactical bolt catch as well.  The bolt catch was not moving up far enough to grab the bolt.  The bolt kept skipping across the top of the bolt catch.  I ended removing 2 coils from the bolt catch spring and the bolt catch now has it's full range of motion.

During the troubleshooting process I did not have my barrel mounted to the upper and the buffer eventually sheared off the buffer retainer pin under repeated impacts.  I guess the barrel extension usually takes the impact of the carrier assembly and buffer.

did you have the 308 version or the ar15 version?

1x Extended Bolt Release v2/308 (EBRv2/308) [EBRv2308] according to my receipt.

I love the threaded pin for holding the bolt catch on the MaTen.  If I had to drive a roll pin in and out I would have gotten really angry when the bolt catch didn't work originally.  I might have to look into modifying my AR15 lowers to accept a similar pin.

I have the MA-TEN and a DD 12' AR-10 lite rail. The rest of my parts are inbound.

Magpul UBR, slash's buffer and spring
Geissele SSA trigger
BAD selector
Armalite mag catch
MIAD grip
DPMS .308 Bolt Catch

Armalite AR-10 BCG
18" Rainier UltraMatch Barrel
LARUE gasblock
Vltor flashhider

Should have it together and to the range in a week. Where did you guys get your gas tubes? I ordered a Midlength from Spike's and I am positive that it is Ion Bonded. I will post a range report ASAP. Thanks to everyone for your help/knowledge.

safdtrev

sounds like an awesome build.

Let me know how the rainier barrel shoots, Im leaning toward getting a 20" (DPMS) when they become available again, and when funds permit.

ETA: I am also eying a Geissele SSA trigger, let me know what you think, when you try it.

Thanks

The Magpul BAD will not work with the MA-TEN (I tried) however guys are using the phase 5 version of the BAD.  There isnt enough room behind the pupper pad to fit the back portion of the BAD in there and still function.

That BAD (ASS) looks pretty cool for a selector switch, but I dont like that the screw for holding it together is external (as in out side the gun) I like the Rock River Arms Ambi-Safety because the set screw that holds the two parts together is on the inside the lower.  It gives it a clean look, like a normal safety selector on both sides

There's really no comparison to the BADASSES. They are the best. I have them on all of my ARs and I'm a righty.

Sorry for the confusion. I have a BAD ASS selector (regular/thin) on a carbine  and for a lefty it is the best I have tried. Seems that the weather in Salt Lake City UT is gonna slow me down. Just checked UPS and its stuck there, hopefully not for too long. I will post results on the Rainier barrel ASAP.

Please do...your build is almost exactly what I am planning except I am trying to decide between Noveske barrel and the Rainier and I am gonna use an Accuracy Speaks non-adjustable single stage trigger.

I had the same problem. Went with the Rainier to try to save some weight on the front end of this beast. Rainier has been a pleasure to do business with in the past and they have earned my business whenever possible. The Brown truck has now left Salt Lake and we are still on schedule. Should have it together and to the range on the 3rd. I will post results from the bench.

So I've been saving my pennies after my initial outlay of $500 bucks (Ma-Ten receiver) and $240 for Palmetto State Armory LPK-EMOE w/SSA-E trigger trying to save up for the rest of my build.

Then...Black Friday comes along

My nest egg wasn't ready but I did it anyway. 18" Noveske Barrel, Armalite BCG, DPMS bolt catch all from Rainiers  10% off.

10% off  plus C&R discount from Brownells  on Rifle Length Viking Tactics 308 Handguard and Magpul UBR stock

$120+ savings

A few more items and I'll be posting pics and range reports!!

(when I can afford it )

I picked up my Upper/Lower from my FFL today!

I also ordered the phase 5 EBRv2/308 and Smith Vortex flash hider.

Just need:
Rainier 20" Ultra Match barrel
BCG (leaning towards Armalite)
Rainier 13" Rail
Geissele trigger (leaning towards SSA-E) just ordered Geissele SSA
Troy BIUS

And
Larue scope mount
new scope (I will run my redfield revolution until i can buy a new scope)

Guys, I've got to ask: Who's making 12.5" barrels nowadays. Noveske is showing "temporarly out of stock". I don't know how long that will last. I've got an email into them.

I ordered my MA-TEN combo Friday. I was planning on a 12.5" with my AAC 762SD can. If clearance permits, Rainier Arms 11" rail should round off things nicely.

For that length you have to wait for noveske or get one custom turned.

Hopefully they will reply Monday with some good news. I wonder why they have other lengths available but not the 12.5?

They just get them in when they can. Its one of those things that they didnt sell a ton of, especially before the MaTen sets came out. Plus 308 SBRs are much more rare than 5.56. So when they would order them from PacNor they probably would order one 12.5 inch for every 10 18inch long ones they got ya know? I am sure they have them coming in, or have plans to order more, its just a question of when they will come in.

If you use the  Rainier 18" Ultramatch use the Armalite carbine gas tube. I though I read thru everything but guess I missed this info. Just got an email from Rainier and John states that the Armalite carbine gastube is the one to use for the Midlength gas system on Rainier's barrels. Hope this saves someone some time or money.

In case anyone is still interested I think I have the LaRue DPMS nut figured out, as well as figured out how to get the anti rotation keeper to work with the increased size of the MaTen uppers. I am still working on the keeper design itself, just have to sit down and take some measurements off of the upper for fit info. I have the nut drawn up and just have to get some quotes back from some shops on the costs before seeing if it is worth proceeding with more than one for myself. If anyone has any interest in this let me know

Question on the upper assembly process - what upper block works with the MA-Ten upper to install the barrel?  The DPMS LR-308 delrin one, something else?

Does the MaTen share upper/lower compatibility with any other brands?

I see that it is angle cut like the Armalites and the KAC.  However would the lower and upper be interchangeable with either the Armalite or SR25?

I can tell you from first-hand experience the MA-TEN upper will slide onto a KAC or LMT lower, but the pins will not engage. Everything lines up, but the pins on the lower and the holes on the upper are not the same size. Most likely a bit of Dremel work on the pins or the holes would allow the MA-TEN upper to mount on a KAC or LMT lower.

A little FYI...if anyone is contemplating using the SEI Vortex flash suppressor for their Ma-ten build and they are installing it on a Noveske barrel; the correct model is the
1000V-Noveske Threaded 5/8 x 24 x .635±” thread depth.
Not the 1000V Threaded 5/8 x 24 x .735±” thread depth. According to Todd Krawczyk of Noveske Rifleworks LLC

Not to be too off topic, but a 2006 cyclone gray (blue/gray metallic) and it's still stock beyond slightly more aggressive tires.  I bought it right before the recession with plans to supercharge but then spending the money on an extra 100-200hp seemed like a bad idea when the bottom fell out of the economy.  Can't eat a blower.

Can't eat an MA-Ten set either, but they are slightly more affordable.  Just so this post isn't 100% off topic.

here is mine so far w/out the gas block and rails that will actually work with it (larue rails only work on ar10 (for now!)).  the new rail i picked up on black friday is the troy mrf 13.2" fde rail.  have a JP adjustable block coming, which should be hidden with the rail.  i cannot WAIT to get it finished!  called the atf today and my suppressor was approved too so I'm going to be one happy camper in a week!!

I have heard rumors that the Troy rails being made today are for the new style DPMS upper (a different rail height) and the MA-TEN is the old DPMS/AR-10 Rail Height, and that if you want one with a DPMS barrel nut that is for the old DPMS nut you have to special order it (tell the sales person that its for a MA-TEN). and that the special order ones are 2-3 months out.

I have been going through a similar mess with rails/handguards. I really want a quard rail stlye, and I want something 13-14" rather than a 12".  My first choice was a LaRue but then I saw that it was for an AR-10, my next choice was Troy(because its the longest of most the quad rails i've found) but found out it was a 2-3 month wait (That kind of ruined my goal of finishing build by Dec. 31st).  That leaves sampson and Rainier. (I belive Sampson acctually makes the Rainier ones) I also know that Rainier likes to use the Rainier ones on the MA-Tens that they build and they seem to fit great.

So at the end of the day I am really leaning towards the Rainier 13"....I just noticed that they are sold out of the DPMS configured ones
