Just for your information the new grip from Larue ( Larue Tactical A-PEG) will not fit on the Mega MA-10 Lower. Build in progress....pictures to come

Did you buy the wrong one?  You're supposed to buy the AR15 version - not the AR10 version.

Much as I'd like to wait for a Rainier barrel for my build I'm looking at the Black Hole 20" 308B Standard Profile Rifle Length Gas System .750 Gas Block - 1x11 Twist- what are your opinions on this barrel against  the Rainier?
Being over here it's not easy to catch Rainier barrels when they are in stock so I'd rather go with a sure purchase with somebody like Black Hole than to take my chances.
Thanks,
John

Do the .308 and 5.56 lowers use a role pin for the bolt catch or an allen screw?

Ok, thanks. I might think if one did, the other would. I have two guns to assemble tomorrow for a buddy. These are my first Megas to build complete. Mono uppers and billet lowers. I was going to take a bunch of blue tape to shield the lower if it was a roll pin.

Thanks for the reply. I called Mega Machine earlier today and asked because I wanted to order my handguard for my MA-TEN build. I got one of the last two Troy TRX BattleRail 308 13.8"  that Rainier Arms had in stock! Score!

I have a forged Mega lower that uses a pin, not sure about the billet ones.

My MA-TEN used the allen screw

Got them together. Went great. Both are billet lowers. The .308 does have a allen and the 5.56 is a roll pin.

I'll get a pic up when I get home tonight.

I ordered a 20" match grade bull barrel (.936) from Black hole on May 22 and had it in my hand on June 21.  The site says to allow 8 to 12 weeks for delivery but obviously that wasn't the case.  I haven't had a chance to take it out yet as I'm still completing my build but I should have it out on July 14th... I hope.  Pretty much all i can say for it so far is that I didn't have the problems you keep reading about on here with assembly.  The barrel was a little tight but I just gave it a little nudge and a twist then wiggled it the rest of the way into the upper, no freezing of the barrel or baking the upper required.  the only other note I have about the barrel is that a .936 non-fluted 20" 308 stainless steel barrel is freaken HEAVY!  but it looks sweet...

No. The MWS uses a special I guess you would call it profile or extension, in order to lock into the upper. It doesn't use the standard barrel extension.

See the barrel here.

I used a standard AR-15 Multi-tool.  I had no issues and other than trying to tighten down the nut without a DPMS panther claw.  Had to use a vice with corrugated holding the upper sideways against the rail and bottom of the upper, I don't recommend doing this, it's not fun.  But I did use a Torque wrench with the Multi-tool which I had to take a little over 50 lbs to line up the nut with the gas tube.

Anyone know who has the MATEN reciever sets in stock?  Ranier had been out of the uppers for awhile now.   I just missed the last one JSE had.  Should have clicked buy yesterday but today it's gone!  I have everything else I need but recievers.  I was looking at the Black Rain and JD Machine set but really want a MATEN!  If anyone knows where there is a set in stock please let me know.

Thanks!

I'm gathering parts for my first Mega .308 build. Going with the monolithic upper/lower set with ambi controls. I've read about 20 pages in this thread so far as well as a bunch of stuff on mega's site and I still need someone to help me out with a few things.

1- I'm going to be running a Magpul PRS stock, do I need the one for the ar15 or for the ar10?
2- This question will vary some depending on the answer to the question above i think, but should you ONLY use an ar15 buffer tube or are the ar10 tubes acceptable as well or if I get the ar10 stock then i need an ar10 buffer tube or if i get the ar15 stock i need an ar15 buffer tube?
3- what buffer and buffer spring combo is best for the stock set-up above?
4- I emailed mega asking about triggers and basically the answer i got back was to buy theirs, but I think I want the grissel or timmny. That said, do I need to buy the ar10 versions of their triggers or am i supposed to use the ar15 version?
5- To those of you using noveske barrels on monolithic rail uppers, did you get the kit with the gas block and gas tube? If so, those gas blocks say they have to be pinned, but mega's install instructions say to use a gas block with set screws on the bottom and use a dimpled barrel to install the gas block. What did you do to make this work?

#1 - The AR-10 version of the PRS, it has the check rest mounted a little further back to allow for the extra room needed for the longer 308 size charging handle

#2 - use an AR-15 Rifle buffer tube, you can use an AR-15 buffer tube with a AR-10 PRS. alternate source for AR-15 buffer tube

#3 - AR-10 rifle buffer and AR-10 Spring

#4 - You can use the AR-15 version.  I have run 3 different geissele AR-15 triggers in my MA-TEN. (SSA, SSA-E, and Hi-speed).  All of them worked great!  The design of the MA-TEN lower alows for the use of most AR-15 triggers.

#5 - I can't answer this one, I don't run a monolithic upper

BravoCompanyUSA and Rainier Arms are industry partners and site sponsors here, both are great sites to deal with

Gotactical is a great site too, great prices on magpul stuff

I have ordered from all three of the above sites many times, all good people!

I used a MEGA monolithic with a Noveske 18" barrel which I bought from Rainier Arms. The barrel came with the gas block and gas tube. I had no problem using the tapered pin and set screws. Just be sure that you drive the pin in correctly. It is a tapered pin and if you try driving it in backwards you can screw something up.

I believe that MEGA recommends using a set screw gas block because there are a lot of people that use shorter barrels or shorter gas systems therefore the gas block would be UNDER the rail and nearly impossible to pin in most cases. On the underside of the monolithic rail there is a cutout that allows you to lock your low pro gas block using set screws.

Look at that ... the same setup you're talkin about Try not to notice that the A2 flash hider not being properly timed. I didn't complete that detail when I gook those pics.

Just got word from MEGA that the monolithic uppers are no longer available in either .308 or 5.56 so all you lucky bastards who got one should be glad you did! Apparently someone else has a patent on something similar and they feared a lawsuit was coming. The MTS's replacement is MONTHS away from release at the earliest, how bad does that suck!

I'm sure this has been covered but will a a DD AR10 lite 12.0 rail with a DPMS nut work on a maten upper using a rainier barrel (DMPS pattern)? How about the Rainier Arms Free Floating Rail System : RA10-X11, same as before, DPMS nut and same Rainier Arms Select™ .308 Barrel - 20 SS?

Thanks for the help as I'm now having to switch gears due to the MTS being discontinued.

Well I'm anxious for the press release from MEGA about all this (if there is one), but you make it sound as if they have plans to continue making monolithic uppers in some different configuration.

I've got a lower ready to go, and I've been holding out for a monolithic. Now I'm wondering if I should just build up something with their billet upper and a FF rail. I could hold out for the next iteration of monolithics, though, if that's a possibility.

And, first thing I was wondering was 'who else makes anything like this for 308?'

Bummer, all the same.

Well here it is from CalGuns. Hope I am not out of line passing this along.

July 17, 2012

To our Valued Customer:

Announcement regarding Mega Arms Monolithic MTS upper receivers:

We have both good news and also tough news to deliver. So to quickly get the bad news out of the way: we are no longer manufacturing, or offering for sale, our MTS Monolithic upper receivers. This includes sets involving the MTS upper in AR-15 and MATEN. If you are a custom MTS client, please contact us.

You must be wondering why we are taking this step. No, we did not have any safety or quality issues. You already know that our MTS upper is made to our high expectations and has been the pinnacle of the industry since its inception. We recently became aware that a competitor is about to obtain a patent, and we believe that this competitor will assert its patent against us. We have strong defenses, but we are not a large company that can sustain ongoing litigation expenses. Plus we would rather be working on providing a superior replacement.

The good news is that we are working on a new platform that far exceeds anything currently offered in the industry. It will be exactly what you would expect from Mega Arms. We have no specific time frame on when we will be able to start shipping the new platform, but stay tuned for news on that front.

The MTS upper for AR-15 and MATEN has been a huge success for us at Mega Arms, and we are just as disappointed as you are with this decision and change. We convey our apologies for any inconvenience this may cause to you or your customers. We at Mega Arms look forward to our new platform, and believe that it will be a platform that the industry would expect to see from us at Mega Arms!

Sincerely,

Mega Arms
