Got my first AR last month it's a S&W M&P 15T.

I've since added:
Troy 2 point Battle sling
Magpul AFG2
Offset the Magpul folding BUS to the right side
Flashlight on the rail
CAA grip
CAA cheek welds
1" offset riser to raise up the scope and move it back some, it may look goofy but its comfortable
Scope is a cheap Firefield 2.5-10x with red/green reticle and green laser until I save up for a good optic but so far it works better than the $150 price tag.

Does the riser look goofy to anyone else?

It's your rifle, do what you want with it. But my question to you is, how do you charge that with that crap in the way?

You can still grab it with two fingers as normal...

That just looks terribly awkward and unnecessary. Please take time to look around this site and take notes on how others have setup their AR's, and more importantly, why they set them up like they do. There must be practicality and thought in every piece someone bolts on their AR, otherwise they're setting themselves up for failure, ridicule, or both. Shooting from a bench and punching paper is all well and good, but if you intend on using your AR for self defense at all, all that shit needs to have a rethink. You started with a decent base AR, but most of the other stuff can go and be better off. Don't take offense to what I've written please. We're all here to help.

If it works for you, you're good to go. I know I couldn't possibly shoot with that set up. The sight is way too high and too far back for a guy of my proportions. I typically get my nose pretty close to the CH.

How do you shoot with the optic so far back?
Anyway though, its your rifle so do what you like, but you asked if the riser looks goofy, and well, it does IMO.
Seems like using the charging handle would be awkward too.

No sorry I haven't even been able to shoot any with that upper. It will probably be suppressed 99% of the time so flash won't be an issue for me. Sorry I can't be of more help!

Finally posting pics of my M&P15 Sport.  I held out for the 1 in 8 / 5R barrel and I am glad I did.  Slapped a couple goodies on it right away: Troy VTAC 15" Rail, JP Adjustable Gas Block, Troy HK Sights, Miculek Brake, and Hogue Grip.

This is what it looks like now.  I have added a few more goodies since then: AR15Targets Billet Lower, Spikes Standard Lower Kit, KNS Pins, Magpul ACS-L Stock, Spikes ST-T2 Heavy Buffer Kit, JP LMOS Bolt Carrier & Enhanced Bolt, BCM Charging Handle Mod 4, Tapco Intrafuse Foregrip (both full size and short), EOTech XPS2-0, and Vortex VMT-3X.

Great looking rifle and great photo. I love the feel and balance of a 20rd mag in a home defense rifle.

It looks like if you dropped the rifle you'd need to buy a new riser for that dot. Still a nice stick.

And because pic thread, I finally have 'Lillith' in a configuration I'm happy with.

Like it's been said,

Is like it's nineteen-nintey-four!
