I had it like that, but the problem is the damn carbine length rail and me being a monster of 6'5" with a wingspan like Tayshaun Prince (spelling?). The light was getting in the way of my firehose grip, and since I shoot the gun more than using the light, I've adapted (I know bad habit) with this rifle to doing the old school magwell grip to run the light and firehose grip to shoot normal. on all my other rifles (16" with midlength) i have the light moved forward. i dont mind the magwell grip anyway since that's what i grew up on when not chickenwinging for real long distance (oh how dumb we were in the past...) Thanks for the compliments on the coating. cheers. |

How do you use a firehose grip with that VFG on there? I think you need to rethink your setup. If it is a defensive rifle you need to use it the same way every time. If it is not you don't need a light on it at all. That being said look into the IWC light mount. It mounts on the top of the MOE with no added rails or bs. It is super low profile and will allow you to use a proper grip and not get in the way while putting the light in front of the FSB..

I just threw the G2 on there because I had a spare one laying around. It's more of a modified/gargantuan firehose grip, but I just basically use the VFG as a reference point so I index to the same spot everytime. Handgrip is still firehoseish. Can't extend my forearm anyway even will the stock all the way out because my arms are too long. I was looking at one of those M&I lights also to mount on the FSB. I'll have to check the IWC. In the MOE manual it said not to mount the rails on the top of the handguard so not using rails would be a plus. Thanks for the reference. ETA: fine looking rifle there. just really looked at it. really like the setup. |

|
Thanks I run the IWC hand stop as a reference point. I have had more cluttered up configurations on the rifle, such as trying to run an AFG which sucks on the carbine length MOE, but this setup I have now it is clean and works great, I am actually going to be getting IWC's new top mount QD sling mount very soon which will free up even more room on the side of the handguard.

Just trying to figure out where it went lol Bought it from a guy out in Carlisle, PA (spelling?) about 3 months ago. He said he was the second owner, though I'm not sure. Gun was in great condition. Was all black when I picked it up. Didn't touch anything but the coating and the ultimak. The muzzle break was kind of faded/bleached if that proves a hint. It is an SLR95. If it was yours you ain't gettin it back! Great rifle. He was an olderish gentleman too, if that helps. Maybe roughly 50's? White, tall, white hair, glasses. |

Maybe roughly 50's? White, tall, white hair, glasses. Did he deal in Browning 1919's? Because i sold it to him for a 1919. Probably not the same person. All i know is when i bought that 95 originally i got it for a steal of $500 bucks NIB. Boy do i regret ever selling that thing too, smoothest AK ive ever shot. I dont think it was mine though now that you mention the faded muzzle brake. |

I don't believe he did, though I can't really say for sure. I think guns was a hobby not a livelihood. It is the smoothest shooting AK hands down. I love how light my SARs are, but this thing is a tank. I ran it through a class, putting over 1k down range with no AK finger, no AK shoulder, it was a fucking blast. Go get yourself another! Cheers. |

The cheek weld isn't much, if any different than the Aimpoint/A.R.M.S mount that I was using before. The eyepiece on the Burris scope is a bigger diameter and the "picture" is about the same height above the rail as the Aimpoint. I just got that scope a few days ago and am still experimenting with where I want it. eta: I may try one of those cheek risers made for the stock.. |
