VCOGs can still regularly be had new or like new for under $1800. I wouldn't weigh it out. If your Elcan is marked like this... 
...you still may be able to trade it for a VCOG plus cash. Even if it's a civi Elcan, I'd still think you could find a similar trade with the right person. Sorry. Love me some Mk6, but really love me some VCOG.

New project...stock, grip, and trigger come tomorrow. All that's left is to figure out a barrel.
ETA completed rifle. Spike's 16" barrel, Spike's BCG, ALG ACT, Hogue, Magpul...
