Click on the optics forum, you'll find a post about an EOTech 552. The backstsory is in that thread. Yup, a little more info posted below. There is a group of youths that I work with who are on a training program. The picture shows one of them doing hill runs. While he is doing the hill runs, the others are doing jumping jacks, the faster he runs, the quicker they rotate through each person. This way no one is willing to run slow, or sandbag the system because if they do they screw their team mates. Before this they were doing log drills, immediately after this they were doing water survival drills and hydro endurance training. They get briefings and blocks of instruction and are expected to know the material presented, and to remember it. They have patrols they are given, and are expected to complete them. The last patrol was to show they were able to setup night time anti-vehicle ambushes against high value targets, they do these with a training LAW & AT4. They carry full gear, and have been issued all needed equipment. Live and training weapons are issued as needed depending on what they are doing. PT is hard, and is deigned to make them highly uncomfortable as well as to push them past their mental and physical limits of what they think they can do. Everything is very closely monitored. Drills are no BS hard. At the end of training days, there is a debrief. We check for injuries, equipment, and go over what the objectives of the day/ night were. Packs are currently 20-23% of their body weight. Cold weather PT is harsh. Hitting the ground and getting muddy in 40 degree weather sucks. Doing PT in cold weather with cold well water being sprayed in your face sucks. Carrying logs while running up and down hills sucks. Getting told they missed a supply drop and will have to find their own dinner if they want to eat sucks. There is no shame in crying, there is no shame in being last. The rules are simple, you give 100%, and there is no quitting. Training blocks they are coming up on include vehicle take down, building seizure, rappelling, and hopefully we will get to intro to open water work. It doesn't matter to me if they go through selection or not, the confidence, skills, and teamwork they are learning are what is important. By the time they are old enough to enlist, they will have endured something similar to selection many times over. |
