Putting together a shopping cart on Midwayusa for a couple of builds I'm doing, and it strikes me that I need a nice pistol grip for the AK I'm modifying. First thing I check - do they have the ACE adapter. No go on an ACE search. So I look up AK pistol grips. Yours comes up. I'm computing the cost of ordering the adapter from ACE, plus shipping, plus a Magpul grip...and it it all shakes out the same roughly. Midwayusa's got a great return policy (I don't like to get myself into a situation I can't get out of) so I throw the deluxe grip in my cart.
It came today. First impression is that this thing is quality. It's hard plastic with a solid feel in the hand. It draws and deserves comparisons to the MIAD grip. I feel like I could beat a person with this and it would walk away from the encounter with way less damage than them. WAY, WAY better than the CAA and Mako crap that I've held, and that quite honestly, I was expecting to receive, based on their selection of products that your site carries. Head and shoulders above those companies.
The selection of front and back straps is impressive and offers something for everyone. I've got a flat back strap and grooved front strap in place, and it does not want to leave my hand. Perfect selection to tailor the grip to whoever's holding it. Really like that. Good job.
On the topic of interchangeable grip parts, it seemed to me that the straps only go on one way, the correct way. Is this the case? Because if so, that's a NICE feature for you to include. That's thinking ahead. If that's not the case, well, I'm still a fan. The straps could be a little easier to get off after install. I had to use a screwdriver to pry off the arched backstrap, and that took some muscle.
One thing I do think needs to be rethought is the use of pins for securing the straps. No matter which side I install them from, mine will wiggle out to one side. Also, they're plastic. If you have to have pins, I'd recommend metal, and threading. Will Locktite work for the plastic pins?
Install was a breeze. Not much I can say about it other than it went easily, the screw locked in smoothly, and it stays solidly on the gun. I'll probably back it out and put some Locktite on, but I will do so only because I'm paranoid, not because I think it needs it.
All in all, a quality product. I truly was not expecting this due to the over-the-top advertising and other product lines on your site. This feels like Magpul went AK. I will not hesitate to recommend this grip to anyone looking to replace their AK grip, and will in fact replace ALL the grips of my AKs with this product. Even my brother, an AK purist liked this replacement grip. Two thumbs up from me and him. Keep up the good work!
