Has anyone put a rifle receiver extension onto the gun?
I have a real hankering to pop a Magpul MOE fixed rifle stock onto the lower BUT i am not sure how that is going to work out as i am not sure which receiver extension i would need and which buffers i would use etc. |

How then would we deal with the conversion to a .223 upper? Doesnt the 901 use a standard AR15 receiver extension? If that were the case, wouldnt we use a standard AR15 rifle extension as well? I guess the question is, IF we were to make the swap, has anyone weighed the .308 buffer in the gun and has anyone got listed weights on a .308 rifle buffer? |

I wouldn't touch the receiver extension... As I understand it, it's proprietary to the 901. Someone who owns a 901 should do some measurements, compare to a carbine and rifle length extension and report back. <cough> <cough> Shawn <cough>

That is what i thought.
In which case...my earlier questions still stand. Anyone got any ideas? |

Well, assuming the bolt carrier length is compatible I don't see why an Armalite AR-10 or other manufacturer .308 specific rifle buffer and spring would not work in a rifle receiver extension with .308. Install a AR-15 rifle buffer and spring to use an AR-15 upper. Hopefully somebody with more experience will tell me if my logic is flawed. |

I just recieved mine from Clyde Armory. Great service....I'd recommend them to anyone. The rifle is in good shape. The trigger is more crisp than I expected and breaks at around 7 lbs.. Two things I noticed.....with the dust cover open there is a large gap where the diameter of the carrier steps down through which dirt could enter the receiver. No big deal, but all the more reason to keep the dust cover closed. Second, there is a hole drilled from the "web of the hand" area on the lower. It is visible just below the receiver extension stake plate. I haven't yet figured out what this hole is for, any ideas?
We'll see how it shoots but so far I'm happy. |

I can't wait to get my TA11 sighted in and put this thing to the test! I'll be doing some shooting out to 600 and let everyone know how she does. |

Remember you guys using ACOGs
the 556 BDCs of the ACOG will not match 308. Unless you are using a TAO1B. You will have to zero the gun then do the best to work out how the BDC will match. If I wanted to use an ACOG that would match, I would find a TAO1B though since it was made to calibrate to 308 using 168 grain ammo. A side effect of this is the TAO1B will match up very well with 77 grain 556 ammo since the trajectory of the 168, and the 77 is very, very close. It would be a great CHoice for the 901 if you wanted to use it on the 30 cal upper and the 556 upper |

Oh no! Now some one will be confused on what to complain about!! What do you mean by casting seems the lower and uppers of colt rifles are forged. Are you talking about the area in front of the trigger? The receiver seam behind the trigger where some metal flows out the the form was broken off and not machined smooth on a gun on page about 44. It was reported to look normal by another person. I was reporting my unit was finished and proper and not rough as that unit. |

He who hesitates.... i shoulda moved on the Clyde's armory option. Two of my LGS sorta chuckled about getting one in stock. Anyone else with good links to reputable places in stock??
Thanks all. Great info from al, l and thanks Shawn for all your posts. |

Earlier today grabagun had one in stock at an AMAZING price.
It is probably gone by now but you can always check. Also, does anyone have a part number for the Colt spec LR20 magazines? I have yet to see them for sale and my local gun shops dont even know they exist. |

Just skeeted all over my car, just came back from geisselle automatics shop in norristown pa! The shop
employees were very nice. Gave one guy my 901 and he put the trigger system in, in like 1 minute total. Guy was really really nice and offered me and my pal some extra stuff! Awesome people there at geissele, and my trigger is amazing! Went with the 3.5lb SSA-E |

UNACCEPTABLE !!!!!!!! You need to send that back right now! I see a few tiny light scratches on that finish. How can you sleep at night??!!! Obviously that 901 is rendered combat ineffective. |

Think he's showing the Geissle trigger installed in his 901 (note the "G" on the trigger), not the scratches. I'm assuming that the Colt pins were used? I don't see the dimples in the pins that usually come with the Geissele triggers. |

Magpul said they have no plans to sell the Colt spec mags to the public, at least not now. They told me to call Colt. I called Colt and they said to call Magpul. I talked to Brent (awesome guy in the Custom Shop) and he said the Colt spec mags should be available directly from Colt eventually. So unless you got some great connections it's going to difficult to get extra Colt spec mags for a while. |

Why are you guys obsessed over "colt spec" Pmag? regular works fine, I have 10 regular magpul 308 Pmags, and have fired over 200 rounds through each one with no problem you are making a mountain from and anthill |

Does the 901 take standard AR15 safeties? I'd like to install one of the Noveske ambi safeties with 60 degree throw... Thanks for any insight!

I think you answered your own question. That is a drain hole i believe. Regarding this hole, the hole is visible just below the receiver end plate. It goes through, horizontally, to the rear of the hammer trigger pocket in the lower, about a 1/16 - 3/32" diameter hole. It is nearly at the top of the trigger/hammer pocket, 1/8" below the bottom of the shelf. Another hole that goes down through the shelf, below the takedown pin lug, intersects it. This one is larger, 1/8" maybe. So, could this be a gas vent hole as opposed to a drain hole? Another curious thing. The buffer retainer is only fully supported at the lower half. The top half of the retainer is only supported for three-quarters of its diameter. The unsupported portion is at the front, the direction it is being pushed by the buffer. Thoughts? |

I am going to take the 901 and try to get a kill. I have some barnes TSX loads for it ready to go. I am a big fan of the TXS solid copper HP or OTM if you prefer that nomenclature. I may let Dad use the 901 on the first day and I am going to use the 6940 with 70gr Barnes TSX. 556 with TSX bullets is a very effective deer and hog slayer |

I just put a trijicon 5x20 on my 901. Makes the rig a little heavy, but that won't be a problem when sitting in the stand. Speaking of which, I hope to have some blood on this bad boy next week. Going to west Texas for a hog/ deer hunt. I'll be swapping optics from the trijicon to a NF 1x4 depending on the conditions. FWIW, the larue mounts I'm Using with these have returned to zero without a hitch. What a versatile gun.
Also for the hunters.... Rem core lokts 150gr were sub MOA in my gun today and had the same POI as 175 fed gmm's. Totally stoked about that one. |
|
|
AR167.
What mounts are you going to be using for the 1-4? The top rail height on the 901 is a bit odd and im thinking traditional AR15 height optics may be a bit high, ala the T1 in a standard larue lower 1/3rd cowitness mount. |
|
|
standard larue AR mounts are fine
and yeah, larue mounts are suppose to return to zero, thats pretty well known, I would not waste ammo testing to check that if anyone had that in mind |

Lt 104 for the 1x4
Lt112 with a 20 MOA cant for the 5x20trij Both seem perfect for this rifle/buis setup. |

LT104 here as well- works well with 1.1-8 Leupold

Cleaning my 901 last evening, I was scrubbing the extractor with my wire brush...the extractor spring and black extractor spring insert goes flying into the missing gun part vortex!
Called Colt customer service this morning and was told surprisingly to go pound sand...they can't help me due to operator error! I acknowledged it was indeed my fault and offered to pay for the parts. They declined and suggested I try Brownells. Any suggestions on repalcement parts? Does the 901 accept other 308 platforms extractor springs and inserts? Thanks gang in advance for any advise and I will keep searching my man cave in the meantime! |

The little black ejector spring insert is still MIA...if it went into one of my five gallon buckets full of brass it could take forever to find! |

I can try for a parts interchange later to confirm the extractors and parts can be swapped. The bolt bodies cannot unless you also change the barrel as the 901 bolt is 0.020" deeper with a correspondingly shallower/shorter chamber in the barrel (assuming the AR10 and LE901 extensions are the same). Maybe you can find an Armalite extractor/spring ring or insert if they are compatible? ETA: quote formatting |
