Got a new bow for Christmas, need advice on arrow fletching
presto  [Member]
Been a long time since I had a bow or had to care for arrows. I plan on shooting carbon fiber arrows and I'm curious what you all recommend for the care and feeding of carbon arrows? In the past I had to spend a great deal of time fletching and I'm hoping there are some good products out there to make arrow care easier/faster/fool proof.

Any advice?

Thanks

They do have the "quick fletch" option now, basically a shrink wrap with fetching already installed so all you do is slip over shaft and apply heat but they can be expensive. Trend has gone to smaller vanes (2"). The absolute easiest are FOBs; check them out.

If you get already fletched arrows, shoot into a good target that does not allow pass troughs, you should not need to do much for a while.

Depending on target, you may want to lube arrows, and the old trick of adding a drop of glue to the front and back of the vanes doesn't hurt.

All great advice. I shoot FOBs for hunting and quickspins for target/indoor/and some 3D.

There's some ridiculous adhesives on the market now that make it almost impossible to tear fletching off a properly prepped arrow. Let us know what arrow and fletchingyou decide to go with and we can point you in a good direction from there.

Do either of you gentlemen shoot your FOBs from a ground blind through shoot-thru mesh? I love my FOBs, but I've been told that the 2-blade broadheads I shoot will pose a problem from my ground blind and that I need 3- or 4-blade heads to make the hole for my FOBs. My 2-bladers shoot so well out of my bow that I would rather not give them up. If I get a stand I can keep using my FOBs without any problem, but the blind that I'm receiving for my birthday may change things.

I have not, but I can certainly see how it could pose a problem with a 2-blade head. One alternative is obviously to leave the mesh up, but otherwise wait until you get that blind and see how it works for you.
