Recommendations for Shooting Sticks

Hey guys,

I just traded my way into a Mark X in 458WM. What shooting sticks are everybody using at the range? Brand? 2 point Vs 3 point? 510's @ 2040 are at the very limit of my recoil tolerance (never shot anything bigger than 308 till yesterday) and I have NO desire to try shooting off the bench. I do have some reduced loads, 405gr FPSP's @ 2200, coming to allow more produictive practice.

Any tips on Big Bore Shooting would be appreciated too.

Thanks,

Hizzie

I have limited experience with the following company, I do not have any, but have considered some of there deluxe model shooting sticks. I think their name is Sporting Wood Creations, it has been a while since I have looked at them, but I believe my time has come for me as well. I want to practice up for the hunting season. Not to mention that shooting my 458 Lott off the bench is a little, grueling. The company is in Texas, as am I. I ordered a cartridge wallet from them and shipping was fast.

I hope you enjoy your 458, and am sure the recoil will not bother you after you get used to it. I am considering getting a larger stopper, like a 500 Jeffery or Nitro, but have not made up my mind. When shooting the big bores just make sure your stock is FIRMLY pulled into your shoulder with both hands on the stock and work on your whole body rolling with the recoil, rather than just your shoulder. Make sure you do not develop a jerk in anticipation to the recoil. I find that shooting my Steyr 376 Scout is more punishing than my Lott for some odd reason.

Congrats on the new rifle, and good luck with your en devours.

I really like the Primos Triggerstick tripod. Used them here and in Africa with great results.
