I'm not active, or a vet, so I hope it's OK for me to post this here.

I've got a bunch of stuff I'm going to donate, and I was looking for an alternative to Goodwill and Salvation Army.  Nothing wrong with them, but I want to spread some needed stuff around, and drove past an AmVet collection center (small) when I was in town yesterday.

Charity Watch gives them an 87% positive rating, showing 72% of each dollar going to the program recipients.  But I've heard some negative press about Charity Watch, so I thought I'd ask your opinion.

Mods, feel free to move this to Team if it doesn't belong here.

people will flame me for this, but i'm always torn on most of the vet charities. There are so many programs stood up to help all of us, that very rarely is there a reason for a vet to end up in a bad position. They talk about unemployed and homeless vets form these current wars, but we all get $80K + to live on and go to school full time. If we're injured while active the disability programs pay more than most people know, and if sadly someone is killed their families receive a very large amount from our life insurance, as well as left over pay, and generally free college for their children. Just my .02. It just always makes me sad when i see a soldier or sailor utilizing some of these charities while working at mcdonalds while sitting on a gi bill that would pay them more monthly just to go to school.
