I'm about to get almost four years worth of backpay for va disability, and will be buying a house.  I am considering montana.  I'm a bit of a redneck, I love snow, guns (obviously), and beer (who doesn't?).  I was looking through Montana's gun laws, and was pleasantly surprised.  My brother's on medical marijuana, so I needed a state with that (we live together).

The place I would like to live would be in or just outside a town of around 15000, with pretty much everything you need, a taxi service, maybe a bus service (not necessary).  I would want a 300 meter+ range within 50 miles, maybe close to a military base, a good va clinic, and some paintball fields.  I would also be looking for a community college offering carpentry classes-specifically cabinet and furniture making, but would not mind if that were 50 miles away or so.

Is montana the place for me? and if so, where in the state?

I owned a cattle ranch in western Montana for years. What you are describing will be difficult to find.  There is only one real military base in the state and that is at Great Falls (Malmstrom AFB).  There is one VA hospital in the state, located at Helena, small town which serves as the state capitol. There are good VA clinics thruout the state but the main VA hospital is a bit antiquated..I used the clinic in Kalispell which was about 65 miles from me. Finding a place to shoot is not really a problem. Keep in mind the cost of living in Montana is high. Land/houses are expensive as are other commodities. I am speaking for the western side of the state which most consider more desireable. Big state with relatively few population centres, Id suggest checking out Kalispell and Missoula if you want "bigger" towns followed by Great Falls.

Once I joined... I swore Montana was gonna be my home after retirement. Disability came earlier than retirement :( so I studied.

Helena is a pretty big city...has everything needed. Im gonna move west of it by Fort Harrison where the VA Hospital is...

Hope to meet you out there...waiting on my backpay to move as well...according to Regional it got released today.
