I just got a 10% increase on my disability approved after over a year. The change was adjusted for the next payment and future payments, but goes into effect on the date filed by me (over a year ago) which means they owe me that increase x 1 year plus (back pay). What timeframe am I looking at this debt being settled by the gov't? I should be allowed to charge interest, but I know that won't fly.

As it was explained to me today at the VA office. It is from the date you submitted the claim for the increase. I got my back pay 1 week after the award letter showed up.  I hope this helps

It should be pretty quick. I got paid back pay before I even received  my award lettre. Just checked the bank account and there was 40K from the government.... and yes a few firearms were purchased..

Make an ebenefits account if you haven't already; you can track your payments on there and see them 5 days or so before they hit your account. Also , you can call the benefits hotline- 1-800-827-1000 and get an estimate for your area as far as payment processing times. Here it's typically between 14-90 days.
