I will be getting married in November and PCSing in January. My GF is currently the only one on the lease. Once we get married, can she terminate the lease with my orders?

I have read up on the The Soldiers & Sailors Civil Relief Act... I tend to think I can but would like another opinion.

If her name is on it I would assume so.. but you need a copy of orders,not sure if orders with your name on it would cover you though.



 

Try talking to her landlord first. If you are in a mil town (I'm guessing Lost In The Woods) and your landlord isn't a dick, it shouldn't be a problem. Also, the sooner you give the landlord the head-up on the move, you will be doing him/her a favor as far as forward planning for the impending vacancy.If he/she is a dick, and your wife's name will be on the orders (assuming its an accompanied tour you are going on) then legal shit will start to happen. No landlord wants to get into an unwinnable fight in a GI town, especially if there is a chance his/her properties can get put on the off limits list for the base due to shady practices.
