My daughter is heading off to Ft. Sam Houston next summer, she's a shiny new 2nd Lt. in AMEDD (currently a first year Medical Student)

From what I've googled, it seems she will spend some time training with M4/M16 and an M9.  I'd like to help her gain some experience before she heads there, so does anyone know what the requirements would be (ranges, targets etc) for the file and pistol?

Thanks

BTW, I know this isn't GD but I know the rules

OUTSTANDING!  Congrats Dad.  She'll qualify out to 300 m on pop-up targets, standard Army qualification.  She SHOULD zero w/ irons @ 25 m, zero w/ Aimpoint @ 25m, then qualify on a pop-up range out to 300m, including night fire & gas mask qual.  Pistol will be M9 out to 25m, again on pop-ups, again night qual.  She's SUPPOSED to fire first shot from DA, but that can sometimes be finessed.  A Night qual trick is to pour some glowstick juice on the sights.

There's an alternative rifle qual @ 25m using a simulated 300m target.  You're supposed to shoot a particular pattern of shots in order, but again that can finessed.  On the pop up ranges, you're not supposed to use ejected rounds, but that can sometimes be finessed as well.

If she is familiar with the rifle she will be in good shape. AMEDD bolc doesn't focus a whole lot on soldier skills, it's more of a welcome to the army for docs, dentists, and other medical professionals.

Congrats dad!

Buy her a 92FS as a graduation gift. That way she will be able to have it at home and become familiar with it.

Plenty of former Marines currently in the Army wearing USMC unit patches as combat patches.

I was going to ask if he was prior USMC.  Branches allow for the wear of others services medals/decorations, the Air Force allows the wear of the Army parachutist, Air Assault, and Combat Action Badge.

Lots of Army guys assigns to Marine units in Iraq and Afg wear USMC combat patches, whether authorized or not

I had to find 3 subdued 24 MEU patches for some Army guys assigned to the MEU a few years back, they use to say it was one of the best cool guy combat patches because they were the only ones in the Army with them

As a note to the OP, unless they've changed it (again) it's BOLC (basic officer leader course). Pronounced "bowl-ick".

My father was brigaded with part of the 1st Marine  Division on Guadalcanal and wore their patch, he was with the 70th Coast Artillery.  So sometimes he wore Americal instead.  Don't know how kosher it was but since he was the co of his reserve unit he could get away with it.
