So I've been out for 7 years, after serving 8 years on active duty. Local Air Guard base (Selfrige) shows a "hot jobs" listing for Firefighter (3E7X1). Spoke with the off-duty supervisor, and got the go-ahead to contact the recruiters. My discharge was Honorable, and I have a "1J' code on my papers for re-entry.

1. What are my chances after this long of getting back in?

2. I am a current full-time Corrections Deputy. Dad was a Firefighter until he retired. I work with a local volunteer as well. Is this a good AFSC so consider?

3. From what I've found, Goodfellow AFB (the DoD Fire Protection training center) sucks. What would I be in store for during the 68 day school? Google shows a bunch of bars, and hiking as the main attractions of San Angelo. I did spend 4 years at Sheppard AFB in Wichita Falls.

I emailed the local HMFIC in the recruiting office my DD214, and I plan to call back on their next duty day.

Im sorry. I spent 3 months there. Every minute sucked.

You're chances are probably good. Should look into 2W1X1 though.

I was an instructor for 2A632, and really enjoyed it. Wichita Falls, not so much, but teaching was awesome.

Well, scratch that. Fire Protection is full time only, which isn't an option right now. But I am looking into Emergency Management, 3E9X1. Will know more next week.
