I saw this... https://www.facebook.com/notes/goarmycom/updated-6-jan-2014-prior-service-ps-accession-business-rules-for-enlistments-int/663035983740269

and this.... https://forums.goarmy.com/thread/256852?start=0&tstart=0

As an e4 does this mean 11B is open again for prior service?

...and now im hearing that because i'm IRR with a year of MSO time left, the regular army recruiter can't talk to me.

I was told that a reserve career counselor has to bring me off IRR into a Reserve unit, then the reserve unit would terminate my MSO time conditional upon going back AD. Then the active duty recruiters could bring me in.

Sound correct?

ad recruiter told me you can be released from irr via 368 through meps.   that will be my course of action once i get my irr orders.  only been waiting 4 months now..

Marine? At one time, you would get a conditional release from IRR when you go to meps with the army. You're officially released when you enter AD again.

No clue if things have changed.

Well I got orders to a reserve unit and in-processed this week. Have a new CAC card and updated on DEERS. Reserve counselor informed me that he can get the 368 form put through and get me active again in the next couple months. Let's hope RA keeps accepting 11b prior service.

Next question is if my long term goal is 18x. Should I be looking at that contract going into active duty again, or just drop a packet a few months after I get to my active duty unit?

No idea what kind of eligibility limitations there may be, am 36 now. Is there a benefit to getting 18x in a contract vs dropping a packet later from an AD unit.

A contract will put you through SOPC, which will get you in shape and teach you land nav. Because of this, SOPC guys have a much higher selection rate than AD guys.

that's the benefits of an 18X contract.

Not sure of what benefits there would be of going to selection from an AD unit.

Good luck

I was thinking the age thing. Like if 18x contract would be closed from the outside because of my age, but from AD easier to get to selection at 36.

I've never been to SFAS but I'm in a unit that sends a ton of guys every year. In some units, you'll see some push back from wanting to go somewhere else. It shouldn't stop you though.

18 X-Ray comes with a min 5 year contract, so god forbid something happens you'll be sucking on that good ole 82 inches of love for the remainder of your time more then likely.

Is 11B open to other MOS or do you have to be prior 11B?  Im a 12B now, might be interested.

my recruiter told me not to turn 30, so i think that might be the limit.

a guy from my old unit tried to go at 36 but they wouldn't approve the age waiver, might be different now though.

I suppose it'd be the acme of foolishness to inquire about this MOS as a fairly spry 45 year old...
