Strange for me to say......but I find myself not caring about this season anymore.

Granted, I've been really busy recently...but I watched a recording of the race and fast-forwarded through most of it.

Same. I recorded the race, too. But I set it up for just the pre-race and the 1st 1/2hr and then the last 1/2hr.

15th to 4th.....brilliant!!!

Meh.. Good. Nice driving. But nothing that has been done many times before.

And keep in mind he had, by far,  the 2nd best car of the week end...

Honestly, I think that without the bad luck he's had this year, he would be 3rd or 4th in the championship at this time.

Karma is a nasty beyotch.

Then pray tell what has Ferrari been doing to earn all of their karma? Merc has been making everyone look slow, but for the once-proud dynasty that is Ferrari, getting lapped is almost as pathetic as the fact that Maldanado hasn't been busted back down to karts.

The wife unit and I are starting to feel the same way. We "watched" the entire race... if you count the actual naps that both of us took after the start, until the last 3rd of the race. There were some good things happening here and there, but ANYONE who says that this isn't as boring as it was was RBR was dominating last year is dishonest at best. In fact, the leads that the Mercs are getting are even bigger than RBR's leads last year IIRC.

Oh... but Merc will be testing some new noisemakers on their exhaust this week. That'll fix everything and make the championship exciting again!

Anyways... unlike some of the others here last year, I'm in no way implying that the FIA should target rules and limiting Merc to make things more competitive. I'm beyond tired of this whole competition-by-hamstring BS that's crept into every aspect of modern life. Pull-out all the freakin stops and let's go back to the glory days of humanity's quest for excellence!

That was such a boring race.  The only thing interesting was the Ferrari vs Ferrari battle.

Last year was more exciting, RBR didn't start dominating until summer. At least there were some good races at the beginning of the year. Looking like RBR may start challenging Merc soon. I just hope someone other than Hamilton can win in Monaco.

Agreed on all counts. At this point, I'm so desperate for ANYONE to win who's last name isn't Hamilton. Hell... I'd even welcome a Maldonado win!

Btw... still being a Seb/RBR fan... I was encouraged by the 3/4 results today. But wow... they're still a LONG ways off from challenging Merc. Good to see RIC finally get his podium today!

I was hoping Rosberg would manage to get Hamilton.  I found it great how Hamilton kept panicking and being all paranoid and untrustful of his team haha.

Unless something changes drastically, nobody is going to get anywhere near Merc for the rest of the season.

The only nice part of Mercedes' dominance is that they aren't RBR. That said, 5 races of them running the table is enough

i fully agree that F1 should be the ragged edge of technology.

I think you'd lose some of the drivers if we went back to "hey, if we go a season without a crippling injury or death, it'll be a memorable stat." They like to talk about Senna and have a picture taken with one of his cars, but I don't know if they'd all be willing to race under those conditions.

Can't rag on Britain TOO much, at least they have a driver winning the championship this year.  Italy hasn't had a car to get behind for a while, and who was the last Italian to win anything? Fischella won a single race (Malaysia) in 2006 and before that, it was Trulli in 2004 at Monaco. Pretty damn sad for a country that was once the most well represented in F1.

It sucks too, I had high hopes for Ferrari this year, since they got rid of deadwood (Massa), and have arguably the two best drivers on the grid.  Even the die-hard Tifosi are pissed off.

I think F1 needs to spec a new engine... A 1.2L V16 Twin Turbo rev limited to 12,000RPM, a 3.8L V4 N/A with an RPM limit of 22,000, or a 3.4L I-5 with a centrifugal supercharger . Any boost added MUST be no more than 65PSI and the V4's would be allowed to run NO².

I still think I'd fuck it up less than Bernie has done currently...

BTW, a 1.2L V16 would have 16 cylinders at ~4.6CI per cylinder LOL

Another legend gone.

Jack had been sick for a while, David would keep me up to speed on his condition occasionally but he knew that his Dad wasn't going to get better.

I'm at Indy right now and this is where he first brought his rear engine Cooper to race in the US and changed IndyCar racing forever.

RIP Jack.

If I can ever stop doing this for a living I might have time to put pen to paper...

Hometown boy does good is always a great story. The team have this place dialed in, Ed can certainly drive Indy and they do an excellent job of the small things that are important here, especially in light of the limitations put on what you can do to the cars. Their body gaps look like they have been cut with a razor blade.

Not to mention the finish on the undertray. Hours of machine and hand polishing that would put most show car paint jobs to shame.

Wax, polish, tape, perfectly countersunk screws, shims, etc.... A lot of folks have no idea what goes into making a couple thousands of seconds add up. It's painful and frustrating at times, but winning it makes it all good.

Do all that work then take it to the tunnel, bring it back and refine it followed by another trip to the tunnel. Rinse and repeat.

LeMans 2003, talking with Brad Kettler in line at tech.

They tested two different noses during time trials. One had a normal paint job and decals, the other paint, decals, then the clear coat over it. Polished flat, and smoothed perfectly.

At the end of the Hunaudieres straight (Mulsanne straight is what you hear...) they were 6 MPH faster with that nose.

These are the things we do to make up milliseconds add to up to seconds.

Utilizing electrical power and managing heat with the turbo systems the best way possible is the real game here.
The internal combustion engine itself doesn't matter so much anymore, so I'm not sure why they would switch to any of the options you listed.

Anyways... unlike some of the others here last year, I'm in no way implying that the FIA should target rules and limiting Merc to make things more competitive. I'm beyond tired of this whole competition-by-hamstring BS that's crept into every aspect of modern life. Pull-out all the freakin stops and let's go back to the glory days of humanity's quest for excellence!

i fully agree that F1 should be the ragged edge of technology.

I think you'd lose some of the drivers if we went back to "hey, if we go a season without a crippling injury or death, it'll be a memorable stat." They like to talk about Senna and have a picture taken with one of his cars, but I don't know if they'd all be willing to race under those conditions.

no one said to allow them to build the cars out of paper..  just allow actual innovation again.

should elect me to FIA dictator.  F1 would be relatively safe insanity

so.. does he get fired when the sponsor money he brings to the team is not enough to fix all of his junked race cars?

Too true. He's in the lead on penalty points.

He's still not even with Ralf yet. He hasn't run into his team mate and crashed both cars yet.

At least Ralf was somewhat enjoyable to watch.  Pastor is just sad to watch.

Strange for me to say......but I find myself not caring about this season anymore.

Granted, I've been really busy recently...but I watched a recording of the race and fast-forwarded through most of it.

The wife unit and I are starting to feel the same way. We "watched" the entire race... if you count the actual naps that both of us took after the start, until the last 3rd of the race.

I was catching up on Hannibal episodes while I "watched" the race.

There were some good things happening here and there, but ANYONE who says that this isn't as boring as it was was RBR was dominating last year is dishonest at best. In fact, the leads that the Mercs are getting are even bigger than RBR's leads last year IIRC.

The only nice part of Mercedes' dominance is that they aren't RBR. That said, 5 races of them running the table is enough

The problem you run into with this is not the current lack of power... they have more than enough power to light up the rears.  Safety isn't even an issue anymore.  The PROBLEM is that the FIA is doing everything possible to stifle innovation.

Engine technology freezes means that Renault and Ferrari can't compete

Testing ban has hamstrung the hell out of everyone (excepting Newey, but he needs to be taken apart and studied, the man is an insane genius when it comes to aero.)

lack of Refueling has made pit stops a joke

one single tire manufacturer SUCKS.

Gear box penalties SUCK

Engine number limits SUCK

Fuel flow limits SUCK

So... look at it this way.. if teams were basically given a limit on the amount of downforce they were allowed (that massive slipstream behind the cars fucks up overtaking more than anything else), and a limit that no powered systems were allowed (TCS, ABS), and just let them run hog fucking wild on everything else.

THAT is how I would run F1.  Fuck the greenies.

I hope Romain can grab a podium here, all the while making Crashtor look bad as possible.

Poor Crashnado---you could almost feel bad for him---if he wasn't such a complete asshole.
