Ferrari needs to do something. Alonso drove a great race, the car is just shit though. Red Bull and Mercedes are going to own them if they don't figure out what's wrong. No worries.. I mean, RAI won in 07 and Massa almost won in 08, but since then they've fallen off... I am hoping they can get back up there, but not off to a good start.... again. |

They have two of the top very best drivers in F1 and still can't win shit. F1 is a complete package. I club raced AFM, did some AMA racing and test drove Can-Am, Trans-Am and GTP in the 70's and into the early 80's. When everything was working right I and the bikes I rode and the car I tested were unbeatable. It was amazing how little things like having the needle valves in a pair or carbs off from each other by one notch could make the difference between winning and being the first of the losers. |

More on the Massa controversy: BBC Link If Bottas was on fresher tires, it was perfectly reasonable for the team to tell Massa to make way and give Bottas a shot at Button, IMO. With the wear characteristics of the Pirellis they usually only have one good overtake in them before they go off and it's stupid to waste that overtaking your teammate, especially if your teammate is already marginal on temperature. But at least Massa has taken his 'woe is me' victim act to another team. I'm glad Ferrari is done with this drama. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Williams' chief test and support engineer Rod Nelson said: "We look to maximise constructors' points whenever we go racing. Felipe was running fairly high temperatures on his engine and we were a little concerned about it. We felt Valtteri had quite a good chance of getting past Button because his tyres were five laps younger. "Felipe's tyres were a little bit older. So we thought it would be good to give Valtteri a chance of getting past Jenson and then if he hadn't achieved that within two or three laps we'd have swapped our drivers over again. "It's no big deal. It's not team orders; it's a strategic decision based on the relative performance of the cars. We don't want to put one driver down and one driver up. We don't run like that at Williams. "We'll sit down with both drivers and discuss the situation and what we expect." Massa has 11 race victories and was as close as you can get to becoming a world champion. They were asking him to move over for their 2nd driver, who's never finished higher than 5th. If it were late in the season and Bottas had a clear advantage in points and the team wanted to help him in the WDC then team orders are appropriate. But I really dislike when teams don't let their drivers race. Ferrari ordering Schumacher passed Barrichello early in 2002 turned off a lot of fans and is what got team orders banned. If Bottas was faster than Massa, he should've passed him. |

The only hope of Bottas catching/passing Button was to not have to wear out his tires (and the remaining laps) trying to pass his teammate. The team is more important than the individual driver. What Massa has done in the past retaliative to Bottas, doesn't matter. They are racing today, not in 2008. Massa will get a slap on the wrist from the team, but it'll never make it to the press as they'll all need to save face. |

It's the webber curse on ric View Quote Who's curse was it when Seb retired on lap four in AUS? Riccardo certainly seems to have had some bad luck, especially in light of all the stupidity at Sepang. But much of his "luck" at the moment is RBR scrambling to get their shit together. Fortunately, they ARE coming up to speed very fast. Which no doubt is much to the consternation of the perpetual whiners in these threads. I enjoy EVERY F1 race. And that includes yesterday's snoozefest in terms of Hamilton leading from start to finish. Amazingly I haven't heard the usual chorus of whiney howls about there never being any real contest for the race lead. Had it been Vettel who lead like that... it SURELY would have started already. Looking in to the Williams/Massa team orders controversy, I was struck by how poorly the season has begun for Williams.
They were the clear second fastest in testing. Now they stand at 20 points, 23 behind McLaren as the top customer Mercedes team and only one point ahead of Force India. They could easily end up in a fight for Sixth Place in the WCC, which is not where they seemed when the year started. I thought they were clearly the best Mercedes customer team, they could easily end up the worst. I can see why they're scrambling for every point. |
