The FIA has postponed a ban on messages relating to the adjustment of power unit settings, the car’s state of charge, clutch maps, brake-by-wire settings, differential settings, start modes, fuel saving and other technical parameters will remain legal. Such messages were frequently used by teams in previous races. The forbidden messages include those relating to: Driving lines on the circuit Contact with kerbs Car set up parameters for specific corners Comparative or absolute sector time detail of another driver Speeds in corners compared to another driver Gear selection compared with another driver Gear selection in general Braking points Rate of braking compared to another driver Rate of braking or application of brakes in general Car stability under braking Throttle application compared to another driver Throttle application in general Use of DRS compared with another driver Use of any overtake button Driving technique in general The FIA now intends to introduce a ban on messages relating relating to car performance from next season. View Quote If the FIA is going to ban general performance messages, they need to remove the limit on the number of drive line unit changes. You're going to see that either the teams are going to retard the power units so far to protect them that they won't be competitive, or you're going to see teams blow through their five engines by Monza, and get hit with grid penalties. |

This. The limit on the number of drive train units is total bullshit. The idea that is is about cost savings is even more ludicrous. When Renault started all the whining about green engines the rest of engine suppliers should have told them to just throw a Le Car engine into their chassis and see where that got them. |

I'm not arguing about the limitations vs the budget, I actually agree that it is a silly notion. I had never really heard an exact amount that customer teams pay for a season and was a bit surprised by the amount (although I'm sure it covers everything including support, etc.) Her comment was part of a response dealing with the question of unlocking the engine freeze for all of next season and the unanimous response from customer teams that they are not willing to pay more if it comes about. |

View Quote They should also lift or at least ease back on the test ban. Arguably the most complicated power trains ever put into an automobile and the only time they're driven is at race weekends. I can understand why the drivers need the coaching, it isn't like the Schumi Era where teams ran tens of thousands of kms testing every season. |

Ferrari looks strong today.
What a shame they have such a lame PU. Alonso could grab a pole today |
Very disapointing q3 Fernando
Shit. 50/1000th from the 3rd place |
Ricciardo best of rest while only running 12 laps. Impressive.

He was fastest yesterday, this morning, and on q2 (with equal tires) He just didn't bring the extra tenth needed in q3... Others have. |

.0007 of a second. Wow! I'd like to see how much that is, in distance. Probably just a few pixels in a photo finish. |

The really interesting one is Alonso. He could have been third on the grid if he and put together his three best sectors on the same lap. Everyone was balancing out the need to use supersoft tyres from Q1 onwards with the need to have a set for the final runs. But Alonso peaked on his first run in Q3, in the first two sectors at least. He lost 4/10ths in the final sector on that run and then did only one personal best on the decisive run at the end, in the final sector. Ricciardo's performance was actually the most impressive: Daniel Ricciardo
Ricciardo set the fastest middle sector of any driver, but lost out in Sector 1 compared to the Mercedes, as did his team mate Sebastian Vettel. This was enough to lose them the pole, because in the rest of the lap Ricciardo was faster than Hamilton. In contrast Sebastian Vettel was the only one of the top five to put his three best sectors together in one lap. He just wasn’t as fast as Ricciardo. |

On it,
Too bad it has rained a lot. Not much of an advantage of being on the right side apparently. |
Rosberg out.
He didn't start He'll probably start from the pits |
Caterham behind the barrier on the PARADE LAP.
Poor Kobayashi. |
The red bulls must totally assault Hamilton.
He has everything to lose now |
Rosberg's running but only has gearshift lights but no clutch padle
The Mercedes steering wheel looks so high tech and modern compared to everyone else's
No sanction for Alonso.
I bet the fact Vettel overtook him again played a role. |
Other than mechanical issues this has been a pretty tame race.
