Hamilton is acting as a buffer for Alonso, battling Ric while Alonso saves his tires. C'mon Fernando!

Hamilton really did fuck up Rosberg's race by disobeying team orders.
Rosberg's pace on these tires is phenomenal. |
|
Alonso lost his buffer, hope he can keep Ham behind and Rosberg catches Hamilton.

5 laps too much....
I told you we needed the briatore strategy |
|
I missed most of the race. What happened to Rosberg to make him so far back?
|

Hamilton like a bitch pushing roseberg out side off the track almost
|
|
Rossberg looked like he was driving a Unimog through the grass
|

Damn... The first safety car really gave the race to ricciardo. Who did a very nice race afterward. No doubt.
The 4 first car at this point got screwed by it |
|
Love to be a fly on the wall in the Mercedes motorhome after this one.

Holy wow.
Alonso 2nd! Hamilton 3rd! Ricciardo wins?! Very fun race. |
|
Hamilton & Alonso congratulate Daniel, didn't see them say anything to each other though lol.

That was the best race all season! The rain and safety cars really helped jumble things up. I mean so much to discuss...
-Ric in P1 -Alo finishing P2 making those tires last twice as long as they should have. -Ham in P3 after starting from the pits and spinning on lap one. Kimi +10 positions for his best finish of the year. What a great race.... everything came down to the final laps. |

Great race,
I don't understand Rossberg's expectation that Hamilton allow a pass when the gap was in the 1.5 sec range. I REALLY don't understand how the team then instructed Hamilton to do it. I do believe Rossberg would be on the podium if Hamilton allowed the pass, maybe even in second considering the tire situation at the end, but he was not holding Rossberg up at that point, so asking him to give up that position was unreasonable for someone in the championship hunt. Allowing a pass would have required Hamilton to really let up given his pace. I much prefer how rossberg handles himself in the interviews off the track but Hamilton has been absolutely amazing to watch on the track especially the last 2 weeks. If anything Rossberg came off a little childish asking for a free pass when he wasn't catching Hamilton to begin with. To me this week belongs two the top 2 on the podium though, Alonso was amazing on those tires which were garbage well before the end. That comeback Ricciardo made at the end shows just how big a factor tire degradation was. I don't really grasp what makes traction so erratic in Hungary but even when the track staid dry this week the conditions were all over the place. This is my first season watching F1 and I can't get enough, the competing stories on the technical side and the driving side really have drawn me in. I have a lot to learn such as why the hate for Hamilton he hasn't seemed to be the winy bitch that everyone says he is... But I am looking forward to the second half of this season even if it stays a 2 man race for the drivers championship. -Mike |

View Quote Rosberg was within half a second when they asked to pass, he dropped back after Hamilton wouldn't let him through so we wasn't in his dirty air and he could preserve some tire. If Hamilton would have let him pass Rosberg could've challenged for the win which would have maximized points for Mercedes. It's common for teams to ask drivers to allow their team mate past when the teammate is on a different strategy. Letting Rosberg pass would've cost Hamilton WDC points but more importantly it cost his team a win and gave it to their closest contenders. At the end of the day WDC points don't mean squat, the constructor points do and the teams are the ones who supply the cars and hire the drivers. So it made perfect sense for Mercedes to order Hamilton to allow his teammate by, but if I were in Hamilton's position I would have done the same thing. |

Another fantastic race.... Te best in a couple of seasons, IMHO.
Three drivers, three different chassis, three different engines, three different strategies, battling it out that late in the race.... Doesn't get much better than that. |

I was out of town the whole weekend at the cabin, but I got back, and just watched practice, qualy and the race. Race was one of the best of the year, rain always seems to bring it out, and at Hungary, which always seems to be hot as fuck, and boring it was a welcome change.
Too bad Alonso couldn't hold on, but I'm happy as well that it was Riccardo, and not pissy Lewis. I'm just disappointed Rosberg didn't get Lewis in the end. |

Alonso is absolutely the best driver in F1 right now. No one can hold a candle to him. Too bad the Ferrari is such a dog. What he did on worn out tires to keep Hamilton at bay is amazing. Best drive of the season so far. Its going to be interesting to see if he stays with Ferrari. With the current regs not a lot they can really do to improve the car for next year. This next month is when all the rumors start flying as silly season starts.
Hamilton is going to get his pee pee whacked again. Merc is not the team to be playing I know better than you and fuck your team orders. Merc is after a Constructors Championship. That means maximizing points for the team. Then to push Nico off the track and maybe cause him to crash out of the race? Bad juju for Lewis. Ignoring team orders was one thing and he did sort of have a good case to make about it being up to Nico to pass him but then to slam the door on Nico by running him off the track was just stupid. Wonder if he was pushing the over take button on top of it all. Toto said the bullshit would stop and wasn't going to fly. Guess we'll see. Ricciardo is really coming into his own. Nice to see things coming together so well for him this year. Good race. Now bring back the V-8. |

They are so far gone in the constructors (almost 200 points, might be over that after the race) that it really doesn't matter, and I don't blame him for not letting Rosberg through easily. I'm sure the team will give him a bye on this considering that their fuck ups put him at the back of the grid for the last two races and yet he still managed to be high up in the points. I'm liking the rivalry though, as long as they can avoid coming together. Ricciardo is just a class act, period.. I love the kid's energy and his attitude, he's leagues ahead of any other recent rookie, including his teammate. WDCs will be incoming for him I think. As far as the V-8s go... I miss the sound, but I really like the racing this year, I like seeing the guys having trouble controlling the cars again, I like the massive amounts of torque trying to rip the rear wheels loose and forcing them to be careful vs. just going flat out through a corner. |

Barring some serious string of DNFs, Mercedes will clinch the Constructors' title in a few more races and start focusing on the 2015 car... I think they'll just let Nico and Lewis fight it out. Why wouldn't they at that point? |

Why wouldn't they at that point? We'll see, but I think the second half of the year is going to be a little bit tougher for them with both RBR and Ferrari (Alonso's side anyway) seeming to be getting their shit together, and Williams also being right up there. Whether anyone will ever get close enough to challenge for the WCC, I doubt it... but 3 or 4 double DNFs for Merc with Redbull up on the podium with both drivers could close it up quick... it's happened before. I wonder if Nico and Lewis could still be considered friends like before this season? |
