View Quote Here's an excerpt of an interview he did: <SNIP> Q: How old were you when you entered the service? A: I was 18. I left for Marine Corps boot camp 10 days after I graduated high school. Q: Why did you leave the Marines and go to Army Special Forces? A: When I was in the Marines (Force Recon), which was at that time the Marines “special forces”, they were not a part of SOCOM (Special Operations Command). SOCOM is the unified command that controls Army, Navy and Air Force special operations units, such as Army Special Forces, Navy SEALs. Force Recon was not a part of SOCOM at that time, therefore we did not have the best gear that was available, or get the missions that the other SOF units were getting. I trained with SEAL’s and SF while in Force Recon, and I saw the difference it made. Now there is MARSOC (Marine Special Operations Command) that is part of SOCOM. Q: Why did you choose the Army? A: I was already a qualified military diver while in the Marines. We did a lot of water work like the SEALs, so that was a block I had already checked. I always had a deep respect for Army Special Forces, as they represented (to me) the quintessential image of a professional solider that I was looking for. In my opinion, they have the widest range of overall special operations knowledge of any SOF unit. Q: Where are you from originally? A: Pittsburgh, PA. ... Q: What was your MOS in Special Forces? A: I was an 18BW9. Special Forces Weapons Sergeant, HALO/SCUBA qualified. ... Q: Your bio says you were in a “government counter-terrorist unit”. Which one were you in? A: This is the 2nd most asked question I get. Here is the bottom line. I am bound by law not to reveal the name or the “unit” inside this organization. This organization is not like any other “special operations” unit, in the fact that once you are “out” you can tell other people you were in this particular unit. A good example of this are guys that served in a Tier 1 unit, either Delta or DEVGRU (SEAL Team 6). Their identities while active duty are closely guard secrets, however, once they are out, there is nothing “legally” prohibiting them to disclose on a resume or a job application that they served in one of those units. The unit I was in prohibits me from disclosing my involvement… for life. I can never disclose details of my participation or involvement any further than I have done thus far. And what I have disclosed has been approved by that organizations legal department. <SNIP> |

He also pointed out that there are greater risks for that accolade and that there have been several deaths related to it. |

It's true I don't need to know what "unit" Teti served in, and I don't really care. But to claim you are prohibited from disclosing your involvement in such a unit, and then talk at great length about how you served in such a unit but are prohibited from even mentioning you served in that unit - sounds like BS, and just plain lame. If you poke around there are less than flattering things posted about him from soldiers who served with him in 19th SFG(A). Maybe they had a beef with him, maybe they're jealous of his success, who knows. There's always three sides to every story. And I get that he's forging a career in show business, and doing what he's gotta do to make it in that weird universe, so I'll just take that for what it's worth. But I did enjoy watching him on his survival show, especially his reaction and face when he ate the tail from that dead beaver they found.

ETA: SAD/SAG (not sure if it was Special Activities Division or Group) or something similar? Maybe it's a setup where active duty Tier 1 guys work with CIA? SAD guys who are retired have disclosed in public that they were with SAD. Also, it looks like this was a military unit, assuming the photos are from that unit. I don't think Vietnam era tiger stripes, or matching uniforms, scream CIA. Probably one of the secret squirrel task forces. Of course they probably were working with/for the agency at times. |
|
Guys, Joe Teti is definitely referring to a 'Secret Squirrel' unit! The only thing that he may not be able to disclose is if he worked for the Secret Service for a while or was a true CIA Operative. And the way he talks about being in this unit, but can't tell you what it actually is....is a pure sign of PR and marketing work. The CIA pulls operators together from Delta, DEVGRU, Army Special Forces CIF units, 160th SOAR, AF 24th, to form Task Force units for certain JSOC missions, and usually the best of those can get selected for any covert missions that the CIA's SAD/SOG divisions require.
I am very close to someone that is currently a Night Stalker (160th). The best pilots and crew chiefs already exist in the 160th, but if they are noticed as a cut above the rest, they can get selected for a CIA run unit called 'Virginia Boys'. There is some rumor floating around out there about this unit, but the majority of the 160th guys are very tight lipped.... they work and run missions with all of the best (Delta, DEVGRU, TF, SAD). It's fairly new, but eventually it will become more talked about. Delta was kept under the radar for a long time after it's creation in 1980. Eventually, there will be guys retiring and want to share 'some' info about their lives and what they gave up for our better good. |

is that a cleaning rod mounted to the side of the rifle? Yes. There are several BTDT trainers who still suggest doing it. Kyle Lamb says there should be at least one assembled cleaning rod immediately available per fireteam, IIRC. Kyle DeFoor has an article about how to do it on his website. |
