I love this thread! My oldest and best friend is a Raider in 2nd MSOB.

What is the maroon Commando patch that keeps popping up on guys in Afghanistan. I had a team from 3rd MSOB where I was in Afghanistan and they all wore that patch. I never knew what it was, and I'm seeing Army guys wearing it too.

This patch?

It is the Afghan "Commando" patch. Afghanistan's elite fighters wear it and they are very proud of it.

Out of curiosity, I did some quick google-fu and saw she was attached to 3rd Group as a CST. Is anyone attached to a SF group authorized to wear that shoulder patch? I know it's different than the tab, but I saw some pics on social media the other day that made me raise an eyebrow.

No, the pictures I've posted have either been released by DOD or posted elsewhere on the web, and can be found with simple Google queries.

Good post, Timbo.

I'm currently listening to Richard J. Meadows's book on Audible. Unbelievable list of accomplishments and achievements within the Special Operations community.

Rest in peace, Dick.

Dick Meadows (third from left) and his RT Ohio, MACV-SOG, FOB 2 (CCC), Kontum, RVN, circa 1967.

Served as an artilleryman in Korea, helped pioneer MFF/HALO, served with Bull Simons in Laos in WHITE STAR, ran recon in SOG, had a leading role in the Son Tay Raid, and helped found SFOD-D. Was awarded a DSC, two SSMs, and BSM with V among other awards and qualifications. Oh and he made MSG at the ripe age of 20 years old.

I'm not sure what your problem is, but you're cluttering this thread up to be a dick to the one guy who has nearly singlehandedly kept this otherwise interesting thread alive. He's not claiming to be SOF, or even military for that matter. No stolen valor here. Like Timbo said, it's an interesting topic to a lot of us and this thread gives a look into it. Stop being a dick or go somewhere else.

WGAF? Hell, I'm a "fanboy" of these guys and I carry guns for a living. They are a bunch of bad asses that are doing great things and sacrifice a lot for this country just like every other service member.

This is a gun board. Most people here, like me, are interested in weapons, tactics and gear. What a shocker that there is a pic thread regarding SOF, who   uses lots of weapons, gear and the latest tactics.

Go thump your chest somewhere else, bro.

No, the pictures I've posted have either been released by DOD or posted elsewhere on the web, and can be found with simple Google queries.

I just like guns and gear.  I don't know and hang out with anyone in SOF.  But every time this pic thread pops up around here I feel compelled to go dig up pics and post them for some strange reason.  I don't even post them anywhere else.  So maybe I'm a closet groupie?!  Thank you for your service.
