I think I had that teacher in JHS. Coincidentally, in NY. |

Because the teacher doesn't know woodworking she was calculating based on the number of cuts not pieces, poorly worded question. |
|
1 cut made 2 pieces 1 cut took 10 minutes to make 3 pieces you cut twice 2 cuts x 10min/cut = 20min |
|
Quoted: 1 cut made 2 pieces 1 cut took 10 minutes to make 3 pieces you cut twice 2 cuts x 10min/cut = 20min okay so I was right the first time I saw this. I just don't see how she got 15, I don't understand. |

I am fucked in the head. The first thing that came to mind was seeing Bear Gryllis in that pic going... "So quiet... Time to drink my own piss." |

If it took 10 minutes to make 2 boards, OBVIOUSLY, it takes 5 minutes to make each board. 3 boards x 5 minutes = 15 minutes. Basically, a person who should not be qualified to teach is teaching. |

We are not talking about "pieces" here... and that is the mistake that the teacher made. How do you take one single board and make two "pieces" out of it? You make ONE cut. It took her 10 minutes to make ONE cut and turn one board into two pieces. The question then asks how long would it take her to make three "pieces" and thus how long would it take to make two 10 minute cuts = the correct answer of 20 minutes. The teacher is an idiot and has ZERO business teaching. ETA: If that were my kid, I would march right up to school with a board and a saw and have some fun. |

Perhaps you remember hearing about this pair of singing music box pistols that were being auctioned by Christie's in GD?

Not sure, someone else in the thread was bitching about how he combined a bunch of either 5, 8, or 10 round original magazines to make those, and that they were rare enough that he shouldn't have done that.

If she works "just as fast" how long will it take to saw it into three pieces? wouldn't the correct answer be 10 minutes? play on words? |
