The old Seabee has a reversible propeller for backing up on the water.

If I do a confined area landing and utilize the reverser once I hit the water I can get it stopped in about 500 feet. It is super cool. It's one of those aircraft where if you aren't careful you can land someplace you can't get back out of.

Here's a picture of the helicopter I soloed in this morning. I forgot to give my CFI my camera before I took off so no in-flight pictures unfortunately.

Congrats!

It's a whole different machine when you're by yourself isn't it? Everyone says it's like a rocket ship once you get the instructors fat ass out of it.

Yeah it was quite a bit faster. The CG was aft a bit as well and I had to keep the cyclic a bit further forward while hovering. When I touched down on the pad I didn't even feel the skids touching down (even though it's not perfectly centered on the G) though I don't know if that was because of the lighter weight.

ETA: Oh yeah, they didn't cut my shirt either, but that's probably because we wear flight suits.

I stopped cutting the shirt unless the student really wants it. I think it is corny and they are a pain in the ass to write on. I like just taking a picture instead.

Which model R22 (beta, beta II) and what is your elevation out there?

twratc  [Member]
It's a beta II and our field elevation is 5045.

Here's an actual picture of me flying (well hovering), after my second solo this morning.

Me on IOE.

I think that Marty the Moose. The pilots wanted to name it Wally the Moose after the movie.

"Sorry, folks, park's closed...Moose outside should have told you."

You have a great playground to play in out there and you will be a better pilot for having flown there. Congrats and good luck.

Jeans and hiking shoes?

If he'd been any bigger, then I would have had fit-issues getting him in the Navion.

Was wondering if anyone would catch that... What can I say, it was 9.5hrs into a 13hr ferry flight. Gotta be comfortable ya know...

Glad to see others using Boeing's foot rest. That ledge is perfectly placed. Does the 75's 76's flaps only go to 30? Or is the speed beyond 30 just the same, and no reason for it on the placard?

Edit -
Pickle  [Member]
That isn't a 75. And yes, they only go to 30.

And that footrest has been on Boeings since the B-17, IIRC.

Those seats need to slide back a little farther to get comfortable, I must say, but Boeing knows how to build em...

The plane's a 767-400 (it says it right on the flap speed placard.. )
