Election hype and excitement

It occurs to me that nearly everywhere you look we see Obama. He speaks to screaming throngs and those throngs in turn generate a great deal of Pro Obama sound. His crowds are enthusiastic, loud and capture a great deal of media attention. If asked why they so enthusiastically tout one of the most junior senators in congress to become the most powerful human on the planet, they respond that he has inspired and excited them. Not much more because of course he does not have much more in the way of depth.
Conversely, Senator McCain, is notably not inspiring crowds. He gets polite clapping to his speaches, not whistles and screams of support. The press is by all appearances bored with him and do not seem to hang on his every word. There are not likely to be any grossly new position statements or revelations as he has said it all before. We know who he is, where he's been and what he's done.
Why then isn't Obama beating him? Why, with all this obvious excitement is he not knocking it out of the park? I think I have an answer. It goes to the heart and soul of the people who support each candidate respectively.
In Obama's case, he is well known to be the most liberal member of congress. It follows that his die hard followers are also probably very liberal. Folks who trend liberal do get excited and demonstrably emotional about things. They express themselves openly and display their feelings publicly. Thus, Obama supporters get loud for their cause.
Conservatives and more moderate people on the other hand tend to be more subtle. They may hold opinions strong or otherwise, but they tend to state them in matter of fact terms. They don't get demonstrably excited about much. They are the voters who calmly walk into the voting booth, push the button and walk out without saying much. They don't want a President who will excite them as excitement usually means something negative. They like an even strain and steadfast demeanor. Now, McCain is known to get excited from time to time, but he's not shown it much in this campaign and that suits them fine.
Thus, for all the hype, all the " Engergy " all the excitement, Obama simply can't close the deal. He's excited about something now more than half the people don't want.
