Just after midnight, police got an emergency call about the man. He was said to be patrolling between two houses,
armed with an assault rifle and a tripod. After he made what police are calling a threatening move, one shot rang out.
Here's what led to this shooting.
Once police arrived at the east side neighborhood, they felt they needed a lot more backup.
Whoever the 29 year old man was, they knew he was dangerous. They established a perimeter and kept an eye on him for awhile. Then things changed.
“One officer was keeping an eye on the suspect,” explains S.A.P.D. Officer Joe Rios. “The suspect made an overt movement to the officer with the weapon. The officer, fearing for his safety fired one round hitting the suspect dropping to the ground.”
The 29 year old man was taken to B.A.M.C. Police tell us his injuries are not life threatening, but we have no word from the hospital.
The officer involved in the shooting is a 17 year veteran. No names are being released right now.
