Waco, Texas September 30th-October 2nd.
Schedule and Round Counts posted here: www.cavalryarms.com/3gun/info.html The prize table is going to be nice, every shooter will come away with a minimum of $150 in prizes. Sponsorship prizes for the match are already coming in...among those already committed for prizes are Surefire, DPMS, Spec Ops Brand, and Ergo Grip. Kifaru is sending us an EMR pack with Cargo Shelf that will be used on one of the stages... How many of you fine Texas Folks will be coming? |
This match is a blast. You shoot a lot of targets. You get to wear your cool guy gear and no one calls you a closeted gear queer or makes you feel self-conscious. You get to hang out with some cool folks. You can even win stuff, even if you don't win the match.
I was probably one of the slowest shooters out there. However, I have a nice rifle as a prize (Armalite A4 upper, Cav Arms lower). Mark LaRue sent a ton of gift certificates. XS sights, Spec Ops Brand, DPMS and others added to the booty too. |

Turned in the vacation request today for the time off. Will try to get down a day early to help setup. wganz ¶ |

Guess it's time to clean off the loading bench and buy some small rifle primers. This year I am bringing the "Black Rifle" and not my AK. Hopefully I'll score better.
Just a reminder...
If any of you are interested in the match, you need to get signed up soon. The match last year was a lot of fun to shoot. I heard a few of the details about this years match... this will be the match everyone talks about for 2005. Just think about it... going through a shoothouse at night. Not many people, outside of LEO's and Military, get the chance to do it. Plus, there is a need for RO's. If you are interested, please contact: Russell Phagan Cavalary Arms Corp. Hope to see some of you out there. |
We would like for everyone to have their registrations in no later than September 20th! Half of us will be leaving AZ on the 21st to go start setting up the Range in Waco. The latest we can receive registrations by mail is the 26th. Please send in your registrations as soon as possible, especially if you want to get squadded with the people you requested.

There are a few changes to the match
Change 1 The “Aggressor” targets will not be ready in time for the match this year. As a result we will be using USPSA targets. We have also accordingly changed the rule 6.1.1 6.1.1 previously read: 6.1.1 Any cardboard target, designated as a "shoot" target must have either one (1)"A" hit OR two (2) hits anywhere. At least 50% of the bullet hole must break the edge of the target or the scoring area to count. 6.1.1 now reads: 6.1.1 Any cardboard target, designated as a "shoot" target must have either one (1)"A" hit OR two (2) hits anywhere. The bullet hole must be inside of or break the edge of the perforation for the scoring zone to count. Change 2 Trooper Class shooters may use pistol caliber carbines or sub-machine guns to engage both rifle and pistol targets. If the stage description says they must use a pistol or transition between pistol and rifle, they must still do so. The shooter must inform the RO of their intentions before they shoot the stage. |

Bring some real rifles and we'll shoot long range for cash $$ ??
Talked w/ Russell today. He mentioned if any of you are sitting on the fence about taking FRIDAY off to come out and play.
IT WILL BE OK TO COME OUT AND SHOOT SATURDAY/SUNDAY ONLY !!!!! Just come out and enjoy the FUN! Be safe, Leonard |
Quite a few people have cancelled coming because of Military/LEO duties associated with the Hurricane Katrina disaster relief...the recent surge in gas prices has discouraged some as well. If we have a lot of extra time, we will be sure to fill it up....Team Shoot and Submachine Gun side match are being planned as contingencies. I am expecting more registrations to keep coming in up until the match. |
I am tossing the idea around. I will be a noob to 3-gun and don't wanna look too bad
As long as you're safe, no one else cares how you shoot...most people are willing to offer advice to new shooters. This may help you:

Russell,
You aren't going to have any weak hand only pistol stages.....are you? I broke the tip of my index finger on my weak hand last night. mm |
Yes there is a weak hand only pistol stage...I'm sure we can reach some kind of arrangement for that stage though. Have you sent in your match application yet? |
Well....I have 2 weeks to heal up. I whacked it on the side with a ball peen while installing some Heinie sights. I'm 99% sure it'll be fine by that weekend...it was my smallest hammer. Yup, sent it in and got your email yesterday. mm |
Russell,
You guys going straight from Gilbert to Watt? Or will you be staying up in DFW for a few days? The Market Hall Gun Show is the 24-25th. Plus you need to stay at TJ's house and make him take you to Siciliano's. mm |
Brad, Jesse, and Myself are leaving here the 21st, plan on getting to the range to start setting up on the 23rd....the rest of the guys will be showing up at the range the 25th-27th. |
Normally most people use 7,7-½ and 8, 2-3/4" loads. Some of the shotgun steel isn't so easy to take down, so 1-¼ oz. loads may be preferred. Don't forget that they have some stages that will require slugs, I normally use the Brenneke reduced recoil or Remngton Managed Recoil in matces. Wolf slugs seem to be between standard velocity and reduced recoil and are easy on the shoulder too, plus they seem to be accurate, consistant and clean. mm |

Might add a raincoat to that pile of gear.
Hurricane will bring rain to Waco Thurs-Friday. TRG |
Quiet fool! It rained part of last year, no repeats please. However, the match is the weekend after the hurricane, so maybe we'll be lucky. |
Don't confuse me with the facts, please. TRG |

in addition to the prizes we already have...
I Just got word from Leupold today, they are sending 2 MKIV 1.5-5X scopes for prizes. Brownells is contributing enough of their AR15 magazines so every shooter will get one in their shooter's bag LaRue is sending 10 gift certificates worth up to $300.00 each. Sabre Defence is sending 2 Upper Receivers we will use to build complete rifles |
FAXed my application yesterday.
This will be my first real-live 3-gun match and I'm stressing over exactly what equipment to bring. Mike |
One gun, 100 rounds of ammo, two magazines, and a cloth holster. You'll ace it. |
As it looks now, it is not even going to rain in Watt, where the range is.
Hope all of you have a great time. As most of you know, I'm "over here" so I will not make it. I've kinda got a "3-gun match going on over here. Things have been good okay so far. Look forward to seeing you all when I pop smoke from the asshole of the world. Have fun, and shoot strait. John
