I mentioned this before and got a positive response so, ...
I know there are some of us that because of work restraints, money, time or what ever, cant make the Hun Fest shoots. Heres what I porpose, theres a range here in N Tx, north of McKinney and south of Sherman, owned by a friend of mine that has agreed to allow us access to the range when we want to put together a play day. Its a 100 yd range with 20 ft plus berm. handguns allowed (naturally) Rifles - black/brown/pink (no problem) Class 3 (definitly) Bump firing ( you betcha ) Tannerite (He just learned about the stuff today so .... HELL YES !!! ) I wont tell ya how he found out about it covered pavillion, BBQ grill along with a smoker on premisis. All we need to do is inform him ahead of time so he can arrange for us to be unmolested by outsiders wanting to use the range at the same time for sighting in deer rifles etc. range fee is $5 per person per day for as long as we want to be there. His normal price is $3 per hour per person (honor system as he doesnt monitor your time while your there, you probably wont even see him around, if you do he shoots too ) Who is interested ? Edited to add >>>>> Im off on Sunday and Monday so a Sunday shoot would be the best |
maybe... I am unemployed at the moment, so when I am not out looking, I might be able to meet out there. I live in McKinney.
Did I hear Sunday? C&L. I'm good to go, depending on which Sunday. But Hell yeah. Members in North Texas are fricking lucky--there are several places for us to shoot and gather: 1. Hun Farm 2. TigerValley: both North and South. 3. TRG's ranch Now this. What could be better? Edted to add: C&L. How large is his property? |
I'm in! If this is were I think it is the Dallas folks will have no trouble finding it. If they can find the Hun farm they can find this place blindfolded.
We may have to cobble up some target stands but I don't think that will be a problem. |
I am in. If possible, give a couple weeks notice for others to adjust their schedules.
I know what it is to be unemployed, Ill buck up the range fees for ya, a thirty-five minute ride from McKinney and youll be at the range. |
the property holds his house, two bay shop, micro-tower and an un use trap/skeet range. Parking wont be a problem there is a large field adjacent to the property for parking (as long as it doesnt rain ) We should be able to put about 10 to 20 on the firing line at one time depending on what we are doing. |
gopher. I think you and I have talked about this before. Its Ralph's range in Tom Bean |
You should have been there today LT. There were a couple of chickie snacks shooting match AR's today. One about busted a couple of pant seams. Her seams were in danger too |
Agreed. we need to give him a little notice also so he can be prepared for the invasion. I was thinkin maybe once a month or every other month maybe to coincide with the Hun Farm shoot so those that cant go to the Huns can still get out locally |
One of these days Ill find some charitable soul with a D6 that will come over and lay out my range. I ve got ten acres I have plans on putting in a possible 300/400 yd range on. But thats on down the line a bit
FYI: not sure if its on yet, but ETH mentioned that possibly 2 weeks from Gunstock, depending on weather, we should have a formal gathering at the farm... let's figure out and finalized those dates too...
Ralph and tannerite.......that I would love to see.
A little activity could get that place back up and running again. That is about the only place left for the public to shoot in Grayson county. |
He has so many irons in the fire at this time I dont know if he will or wants to open up full time again. I think he is just making the facility avalable to the shooting public due to lack of choices. Gopher, wait til you see his 56 chevy monster short bus |
No this is on the west side of Tom Bean , The TPA is between Tom Bean and Whitewright on the south side of hwy 11 |
I figure the earlest we will do this is the weekend of Sunday Nov 2, or the 9th |
Doh! Not the 9th. Please..... |

TIGER VALLEY ( the Gunstock range) has also offered to allow us to camp on the range, BBQ, shoot. They talked about doing this every other month.
I have been too busy with Gunstock to make any plans for it, but the offer is there. TRG |
So, getting out to the Hun Farm represents an insoluble tactical situation, eh?
WTF are y'all going to do when the balloon really goes up? Pray for good weather and wide open roads? All right, count me in, as well. So long as there is an electrical plug for my so-called 'assault' blender, then I am OK. Eric The(Dipsomaniac)Hun |

This is in NO WAY !! meant to take away from or discourage, going to the Hun Farm. This is an alternative to those that for what ever reason cant make the Hun Farm shoot ( like me Im off on Sunday and Monday and cant make it. maybe next year when the shift bids get recalculated in February things will be different) As far as rain and mud roads go, I was one of those tromping around in Waco with dress slacks the first day of my arrival in and out of every range pit, with mud up to my &*(((#$ and I didnt even shoot til the 1000 yd 50cal on Sunday. (btw Thnx TBK1 and GiBrat ) So mud and rain dont mean squat to me, we will just have to remember not to tear up the range if its a bit "soft" when we do this |

I'm somewhat of a newbie with the AR, tho' been lurking around a while and picking up some equipment along the way. I did make it down to GS, and had a great time.
Is there a formal list or anything for the D/FW area members? Is there anything more to do than just show up at a dinner or shoot? The range time in North Texas sounds like something I can get to with enough notice, but is there anyplace in the D/FW area to shoot more than just paper targets? Currently living in Arlington, and working in West Fort Worth. |
This thread is worthless without a poll to pick the date.
I vote for 02 NOV. |
Also, I've got several thousands of rounds left over from Gunstock that I need to expend. (Too muddy to haul all that gear everywhere).
How close can we park to the shooting line? |
If its dry you can park ON the shooting line. Some guys have portable bench rests that lay across the p/u bed and they shoot from inside the bed itself. Seriously though, from the general parking area its about 60 feet or so from the 100 yd line. close enough for ya or do you need a little red wagon |
If ya want to get into a different tactical shoot there is an indoor range in sherman that has moving target lines |
Red Tractor. TRG |

Do we know a definite date for the next hun fest ? another option is to have it on a following or alternate weekend so those that can will be able to do both. Your choice guys, as this is the first time around for this we can adjust as needed until we get a good comprimise between the two that will work for all concerned
No definate date set to my knowledge. Let's just get the ball rolling and we can make it work. |
There is a formal list of DFW members somewhere... we all just pretty much post, where we plan on meeting, in the Texas forum. Usually we hit every gun show in the area, have lunch, and meet for dinner every month (so look for those events).... Kinda like this thread: have something fun to do, post it and several may try and meet up. Another example: Want to go to CTD or OldGunSupply one weekend, post it and see who else wants to tag along or meet up for lunch while you are out there.... That seems to be the best way to keep it working without being too formal. BTW: DFW guys-- when/where is this month's dinner??? |
I would prefer the weekend of the 9th, since it's my only free weekend in November.
Well, I went out and checked it out tonight. Met the Owner, Ralph. Real nice guy. At first I did not think it was a place you would go shooting with wide open fields (school, bank, gas station in distance), and homes all around it, but Ralph told me they were his homes and everything else was fine. TB/PD was out yesterday with SMGs and all. He even had a Tannerite demo earlier.
He told me $3 person/day, any gun you want, as long as it is legal, anytime you want, though I did not confirm night shooting. Nice grassed area, big berm, target stands, pavilion, BBQ Grill, and only 25 yard walk from where you park to where you shoot from. He even showed me his "little" yellow school bus (ie, Monster Truck). RenegadeX aka "another arfcommer" |
Would I lie to you ??????? and the pd guys he was talikin about was a few of us from the Collin County S.O. (me included) also a smoker available on site. There use to be outdoor light s on site also for evening/ow light shoots. ot sure if they are still available but I think so |
Is anyone planning to go the Great Western gun show the weekend of November 8-9? It is supposed to be huge, several thousand tables at the fairgrounds. The Great Western gun show is coming to DFW because they couldn't have this gun show in Kalifornia anymore.
You were SandBagging. :-) It is better than you stated, and Ralph is supercool guy! |
This post is useless without pics! |
Ill see if I can get by there on the way to work and get a few pics for you whinney bastages |
As always the wives/girlfriends are more than welcome |
Theoretically the weekend of the 9th would be GREAT for me. My sister-in-law is coming into town and she is into guns and I wanted her to get a chance to shoot a class 3 because my poor butt doesn't have one. Frisco? Por Favor?

Sure, but you supply the ammo. I'll supply the .22 for the .22 suppressed upper for the 16. |
